hi: when i am playing a file then want to change files, wmp 11 always "ques" it. i want it to "open and play" . i tried to change behaviour from "tools > file types etc." nothing i do helps.. it used to work like i want, until i had to run repair on winxp.. help is greatly appreciated.. thanx
I don't know what kind of "repair" you're talking about. If it's a Repair Installation of XP you'll have to reinstall all Microsoft Updates including a "custom" update for software including WMP 11.
i have xp sp2 that i originally installed and repaired from that .. i have never downloaded from microsoft. when i looked at their site, i only saw wmp and no custom options. are you saying that Your wmp behaves how i want ? if so, what option did i overlook? thanx
Since you say that you've never downloaded from Microsoft then I have to guess your copy of XP SP2 came with WMP 11. Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Is WMP 11 listed? If so, try to uninstall. It will then revert to a previous Version (9 or 10). If not listed, go to Microsoft Download Center. Either way try to download and install a new copy of WMP 11. You will either get a fresh copy or repair the old one (I've done this a few times and it worked for me). Now go to: update.microsoft.com. I'd post the link but Firefox can't get there, you must use ie, or find the link in Start Menu > All Programs near the top of the all programs list. Once there you will see two options: "Express" and "Custom". Choose "Custom" and a scan will begin taking a few minutes. Since you probably haven't updated since SP2, be prepared for a long list. If you choose not to install critical updates that's up to you but you should also see options for some software updates including updates for WMP 11. Personally, I install all updates including SP3 and my PC never had a hiccup. But to each their own. You decide
When I'm playing a file, whether it's audio or video, and I double click a new file WMP 11 plays the new file instantly. I've never seen it behave any other way. Wait. Now that I think about it there used to be a Windows Power Toy that would queu a song but that only worked for WMP 8 or 9. Unless you downloaded that, I doubt that's where your problem lies.
Did you try the Microsoft update site? Otherwise, I have done more searching for a solution since my last post and I'm sorry to say I've found nothing. At this point I must confess that I'm stumped.
