WMP dvd playback problem

    i have an averatec laptop that plays dvds in powerdvd just fine. but when i try playing them with WindowMediaPlayer there's this red flickering bloch at the bottom half of the display. it's there whether it's regular or full screen. also it does NOT show it in WM videos played from websites. Please advise.
