I've been using Windows Movie Maker for a while to capture from the DV camcorder in wmv format. Also,I use the AVI codec info. tool which shows details of the captured image. Until now it's read 100% and looked great. Now the AVI codec info tool is reading a 65%--70% quality. Yes, you can SEE the difference,it's not as good. Historically, I was able to manually configure the WMV9 CODEC. I cannot find the way to bring up the codec config. or remember if I used another tool to achieve this. If anyone has any suggestions, would be grateful. Thanks all.
Thanks. I've been that sad road, Own so many programs, free and purchased, not funny any more. However illogical it might sound to the majority. Final image on DVD looks SO much better----on my stuff anyway capturing wmv with Movie Maker.
What changed? Did you update the software? Perhaps quality was a variable that is no longer optional.
There is a codec pack somewhere on Microsoft.com if you care to look for it and waste 4 days of your life. I think they have a copy at free-codecs.com if I remember, but frankly, I think it's crap. The only way to fully achieve a very good file is if you but the bitrate to over 4000kbps, which is A LOT to most people. I like my crummy 50% DivX copies over a 86% .wmv file (which is just like that becuase the bitrates are larger). But, I don't care either way. As for you, giri656, you need to edit your post and take out that e-mail before a Moderator sees that. Only give an e-mail to someone in a PM (Private Message). Welp, that's all. Whatever you do is up to you. Late.
You can find the Windows Media Encoder here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&DisplayLang=en Use the Wizard to capture to the highest quality wmv your machine can handle. Any necessary codecs come with the install, I believe. Happy Capturing!
