I have tried to back it up using Clone, Shrink, and Xpress. It encodes fine in all.. but once it is time to burn, it does not complete. I tried to burn the encoded files using nero as well, and nothing.

clone said it may be because of 'bad media', but I am using the same exact Memorex discs I always use.

I am using AnyDVD version 5.9.4.1.

Time to dump the Memorex. They are far from good and sooner or later cause problems.
Try switching to Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji,Sony or Maxell.
You should also make sure your drives firmware is up to date too.

Thanks Binkie. I stick to the memorex cause it is one of the few discs that has never caused me any issues. Sony's never seem to work for me.

Noob question, how do I check my drive firmware? And where to get updates? I have a dell. Thanks.

You can get the version # of your drives firmware in clonedvd on the last screen next to rev.
You can then check the drives manufacturer site, dell's site or here to see if there is a later version.

If you have problems just post back the make, model & firmware version of your drive and we'll help you thru it.

Thanks Binkie! I went to the link, can I just download straight from there? I have never done a firmware upgrade and am a bit paranoid.

My driver currently is: Teac dv-w58e (rev. D.OC)

The firmware on this site for your drive are DOJA & DONA (latest). Usually there's a logical progression like 1.08, 1.10 or like BYSE,BYSY. Your current one is d.oc. I checked TEAC's site and no firmware is listed there for your drive.
Let me do some checking to make sure we get the right one (at work so may be a little bit). Do you have the dual layer or single layer model? One last question did this come with your pc or did you buy it?

It is single layer, and it came with my dell.. I purchased it about 2 years ago, if that.

Thanks so much for your help. I seriously appreciate it.

Your AnyDVD is way outdated they are up to 5.9.5.7. Update and try it again. I thought the movie was pretty lame. IMHO.

Binkie's right dump the Memorex, all of it.

Not really - just follow the instructions - only takes a few minutes. As long as there's no freak power outage in those few mins you should be good!
If I can do it anyone can - I was new to this at one time too!
What problems are you having updating AnyDVD?

    Thanks, will do.

When I get the popup to update.. I click it.. then it automatically closes. It continues to do that. So I tried deleting it at one point, then when I reinstall its says that my trial is over. But I never had a trial to begin with!

Run the key that you received when you bought it. That should take care of the trial period error.

When you bought the software slysoft would have sent you an email with a key/license file. That's what you need to run again. Did you save it somewhere hopefully?

The code.. number? yes I have it. But there is no place to enter it. It just brings me to their website telling me to buy it.

It should just be a file that you click on and says something like 'registered - need to reboot'. Do you have that file? Otherwise you probably need to manually enter it in the registry.
