just recently I can no longer burn a backup , I use shrink first then when it's finished, the bay pops open and says insert disk. Usually it starts the burn process, but now it gives me this pop-up a few seconds after it starts. I hope this is not to long, and am sorry to take up so much space. I thought it would be easier to see the whole thing Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.59, size=160016 bytes, created 12/16/2003 9:18:06 PM Nero API version: 6.3.1.15 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Recorder: <HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B>Version: A102 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.3.1.15 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8483B atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2000JD-22HBB0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120 D: CDRom0 HL-DT-ST CD-ROM GCR-8483 E: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 73400320 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 502MB (514792kB) Free physical memory: 236MB (241896kB) Memory in use : 53 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 12.5.2005 NeroAPI 9:58:26 PM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 273 DVD-Video files reallocation started 9:58:26 PM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 273 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 9:58:26 PM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 273 DVD-Video files sorted 9:58:27 PM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 118 Reader running 9:58:27 PM #5 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 817 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 9:58:27 PM #6 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 124 Writer HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B running 9:58:27 PM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 9:58:27 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 9:58:27 PM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3148 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 9:59:52 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 245 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2005775 (445:43.50, 3917MB) 9:59:52 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 257 Write in overburning mode: NO 9:59:52 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2137 Recorder: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. Sounds like you have an DMA issue with one of your drive. To change it back to DMA mode, simply follow the below guide: To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager 1. On your comp. DeskTop, Right click on "My Computer," click on "Properties," then, "Hardware," Then Open "Device Manager" 2. LEFT click on "IDE ATA//ATAPI Controllers" to display the list of controllers and channels. 3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which your burner is connected and select Properties. Now click the Advanced Settings tab. 4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if available if the current setting says, "PIO Only." If the drop-down box already says, "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must "toggle" the settings. That is, change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click "OK". Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to "DMA if available". OPTION: Right-click the burner and select "Uninstall" and then "OK" all prompts until the PC reboots. Upon rebooting, the PC should "find" your burner and reinstall it setting it by "Default" to DMA. What brand of blank DVD-R are you using? Looks like Memorex to me. Perhaps, you might want to consider other higher quality media i.e. "TY, Maxell, FUJI, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony and TDK." Make sure it says "MADE IN JAPAN or SINGAPORE." Please stay away from Memorex period.
I am using memorex, I will start buying a better quality DVD. As far as the problem with the burning process is concerned, I am still getting the same message. When I went into the device Mng. I wasn't sure which channel to change I believe there was two Primary and two secondary. the first primary was the only one that allowed me to change both device 0 and 1 , when I changed it to DMA if availabe the tranfer type changed to Ultra DMA 2, that was on both device 0 and 1 on the first primary. the first secondary allowed me to change the device 1 only but it was already on DMA if available, I believe that one was Ultra DMA 5. The second set of primary and secondary did not have a transfer type so I am asumeing that those were not the ones that I needed. I hope this makes sense to you. Thank you for any help that you can provide.
Actually the way it is laid out is that you have..... 1.Primary IDE channel a. Device0 b. Device1 And 1.Secondary IDE channel a. Device0 b. Device1 These are those flat ribbon cables from your motherboard to your drives. Your HDD (WDC WD2000JD-22HBB0) should be Device0 on the primary IDE which yours is. Both your optical drives are located on your secondary and as you have enabled the one drive that needed it, you are good to go. You are getting the typical "bad media" Nero error. Changing to Taiyo Yuden, Ritek or Verbatim should fix this. Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1 =Problems!
Thank you guys very much, I believe that it is the media that is causing the problem, I had to slow the burn down to 4X. But it is working again. BTW is it normal for the burn speed to burn at 4x if you set it at 2.4x.
