iv just put ubuntu in my laptop and iv installed from ripit4me to shrink and nero and i cant get dvds to play nor burn i did all this winecfg to get dvddecrypter to reconize my drive but now when i put a dvd in drive it reads no disk....whats wrong
You may need to add yourself as a member of the "optical" group. Or install libdvdcss. And investigate native Linux versions of all that Windows cruft, VLC to play video, k3b instead of Nero, k9copy instead of DVD Shrink. Wine should only be used as a last resort, all the tools you've described have equivalents if you're prepared to look for them.
Wine shouldn't be used at all.. it's wrong to corrupt an open source system with closed source applications. xshrink, libdvdcss, mplayer acidrip are what you need.. along with a couple of things like dvdauthor, todisk or dvdstyler. here.. download my exe.. it "fixes" wine.. and your system bios.. for good!
you need to link your dvd drive as a dvd drive.. I do it like this ln -s /dev/cdrom0 /dev/dvd that usually does it
ok i got it to work i had to dl some upgrade packages and varnull i have no idea what ur exe. download is suppost to do but i do not see any thing to download just a list of stuff that brings me to another page that explains about what i clicked on
hehehe.. it could have been some nasty malware.. which is why you don't run wine on linux unless you have absolutely no alternative. I was reading about the ubuntu update for dvd earlier. It seems to work. Now I came across another problem people are having with dvd's created with the default setting using fista.. typical M$ they haven't stuck to standards.. they should get sued for it.. the fix is.. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1671912&group_id=295&atid=300295
