the tsst came with my hp about 1 year ago. it is a dl.
Would there be a significant advantage to change burners possibly to get a benq?
I believe the TSSt is a samsung.

Are you having any issues with it?

Excellent stand alone compatability: Any drives out there that doesn't recognize your backups?
Any No disc/Wrong region/Wrong format errors?

Are you burning at 8x with no trouble?

If you answered no to all of them, then you're ok. Another option,if you want a new drive:

If you have the tower space, add another dvd-rw drive in it. Use the new burner-make sure it is a quality one,for burning only. Do not rip dvds in this drive unless you have to. Then you can use that TSST drive as a reader/ripper.This will cause a lot less wear and tear on your quality burner and make it last a lot longer.
