I don't have a sound card but can get one if it is needed. I wanted to replace our Yamaha receiver that died but money a tad tight in our new home so I thought maybe my friends at AD would know how to make my PC sound real fine without breaking the bank. The key point is that I would need to find a way to run a magnetic turntable through whatever system I get. Our PC is HP and 3 yrs. old. Is it possible or am I just soiling myself?
If your upgrading for sound quality i would go for a decent card not some cheap generic crap. try something like this or another creative labs card http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=SCC-A2SE71O
its easy to run a turntable through PC audio you just need the correct cables. If the turntable has red and white phono connectors on it you need a phono - jack cable (available from any half decent electrical appliance store) and simply run this into the mic port of your sound card. if the turntable needs an external amp to work the run it through the amp first then from the amp to the mic port (i know this works as ive done it before its a piece of cake) heres a link to a cable from maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31700&TabID=1&source=17&WorldID=&doy=25m7

The magnetic phono cartridge needs a pre-amp for a receiver (or a suitably equipped receiver), so I will probably need one for sound card input. I'll get one on eBay. Thanks for the link to the card. That is the qualtiy I am looking for but I like 2.1 as my room is small and I just bought a new Bose Companion 3 to get the best system I could find in stereo. Do you think changing from the on-board sound I now have to a sound card will really make a difference in quality? I am sorry to ask but the choices are stymieing to me...do you know of a stereo card of comparable quality to the 7.1 you showed me above (if you think I need one, that is)
cards built by creative labs are built for quality obviously the more expensive ones are better but if the sound on your onboard card sounds crap getting a pci one should fix the problem you can plug the turntable into any old mic port of any sound card but if its quality you want go for new Glad i could Help ;P
get a x-fi fatal1ty creative labs sound card.it has a box that goes in the 5.25 drive bay slot.you can hook that up too.i play my electric guitar through my pc.simply amazing.....dont think any other card can process that besides a midi card...peace
Actually absolutely any card in the worls that has a mic or line in port is capable of playing an electric guitar through jus thort id clear the air
that not entirely correct....yes you can port music through a sound card with special wires and adaptors.this sound card adaptor piece has a regular electric guitar plug jack,not a mini.plus the sound quality is fanominal compared to any sound card in the world btw sypher:work on that membership.....lmao...peace
Thanks for the tips guys. I'm learning a bunch. I may hold off on a card of the x-fi fatality's quality, at $200+ it's a little steep. Probably the best at that price though. I'll shop around...and learn some more. Thanks for your help!
yea that xfi is sweet but about 279 usa dollars...you might be able to get away with the older platium versions of sound baster aug. 2 cards.you need that box in you 5.25 drive bay slot to do what you want to do....or you will have to change the plug on the end of the record player......peace...the other one i think is 150 us dollars not sure......hope i helped
