http://www.tessco.com/products/getProductInfo.do?sku=49914 Some people expressed concerns that lower wattage irons are too slow to heat compontents, but this one looks as if it has a temperature comparable to that of a 25 watt iron. Would something like this be good for installing a mod in my ps2?
12 watt should be fine, i use a 15 watt and thats perfect. Youll also need a 0.1mm tip for soldering to the PS2 circuit board.
since the solder connections are so small on a ps2, the wattage/temperature isn't really important. 800 degrees is around standard, and since the amounts of solder are so small, low wattage will be fine. The most important factor is a small tip...surface mount soldering is FAR more difficult than standard. If you haven't done it before, I highly suggest practicing first. I destroyed my first ps2 that way, and I've been soldering for many years.
