i have a 360 that has a modded dvd drive so i can play backups. i really want to try and avoid the kinect dashboard ban, so i was planning on putting the original, legitimate dvd drive (which i still have) back in my 360...would that work? or would m$ have already flagged my console for instaban, etc etc? is the dvd drive even the thing that they look at when flagging modded consoles? i have no clue how this stuff works; i got my console pre-modded, so for all i know there's soldering on the motherboard or something...
just because you're removing your dvd drive is not going to keep you from getting banned. The second you modded your 360, you took a chance, and there could be a number of things that caused your console to get banned. Only way to avoid is not update.
I said hard drive, but meant dvd drive, irregardless if it was either device, my point still remains.
what? No, we're telling you you are wrong. Everything you posted won't help you from getting banned. You're SOL
My advice would be to stay offline when the update comes out and see what happens to the martyrs. If they're getting banned obviously try and wait it out until new fw is available. Not saying this will work as you could already be flagged, not likely, but usually when this happens the first thing people do is keep connecting to live until they get banned. You could always check if your flagged already by registering a repair or ringing up M$.
I meant that it was my dvd drive, and that I didn't personally mod my console. Those were the two things. If I request a repair and it doesn't give me an error message or anything, I'm fine, right? At least that was how it worked last year. But it might be different this year, seeing as it actually comes in a system update and all... Oh, and lol @ "arrowsmith". Really?
He's referring to the massive spam the 360 board receives this time every year. It's nothing personal, obviously. A.D. will soon be flooded with one-time members who'll post - "will xxx get me banned" - "I'm banned, screw MS, it's so unfair" - "I'll teach MS a lesson and cancel my LIVE" - "I never been banned so I guarantee no one else will be" - "post your specs and if you were banned or not" and it goes on and on. All these people will join, post a question or two flooding out all the legit topics, and then we'll never hear from them again. At least you're in with your questions fairly early. So here's some info. In the past both the firmware (meaning dvd drive) and backups were detected. There were no specific steps to follow to ensure not being banned from using backups. Most have been banned, some have not. It's been rumored for the past couple months, since the first leaked Kinect dashboard, that modded drives will be detected. So long story short; no one can give you any solid answers. Your only real option is to just leave your modded console as is and go out and pick up a used one for online play. Personally, I've never been banned since having a modded drive starting back in '06. But I'll never tell anyone not to worry; it's safe. That's just stupid advice.
Hey, I've been on this site long enough to remember the last ban wave, woohoo. I modded my 360 right as the wave was starting and have never played it online. I've saved a ton of money and if there was a game worthwhile to play online, I'd man up and get another 360. The money I've saved would justify that. I'll actually probably get one with the Kinect bundle. So kids, instead of worrying what will get you banned, think more about if it's worth it to cworry and if it's really such a hassle to get another 360 instead of living on a tightrope with your nerves.
100% on the money,,if i get past this wave,,it would be my 3rd,,i dont do dumb things to get M$ attention
