I notice that LoveFilm are now doing online movie downloads for rent or to buy. I assume there is some kind on encryption on the downloaded file, but that are offering the option for £2-£3 to download and watch (there are two quality options to reduce download times. For £15plus you can download the same file, also receieve a file authored fora mobile device, and receieve a DVD through the post.

The question is would you do it and is it good value for money

I think downloads are (currrently) going to be restricted by quality versus time to download issues. The 'high quality' download option is still only a quarter the size of a single layer DVD, so its not going to be comparable unless you watch it on a small screen!

I do like DVD rental though, if only for the convenience of selecting from home! The range of titles is also good. How much does it cost for renting from a library. Currently, if you look at say Tesco, you get once DVD at a time for £7.97 per month. If you watch two a week (i have had up to three a week) that works out at a £0.99 per DVD, or £0.66 if you get up to three in week.

No, I will just stick with going to Best Buy and buying my favorite DVDs.

I'm an old dude and appreciate the accompaning print collateral that comes with a hard copy DVD.

Back in the days of vinyl, when poster and pix came with the lp, it was half the joy of ownership.

The album "Sticky Fingers" by the Stones was a true treat.

If Hollywood were serious about making a dent in piracy, they would increase the "value added" of retailed DVDs.

    Cheers! Wayne
