hey. i just started burning dvd's a couple of weeks ago. i have been using dvd shrink and dvd decrytpter without trouble until recently. the last four movies have all given me a "write protected" message after initiating dvd decrypter. i coincidentally switched blank dvd brand (and also max. burning speed capability). i have no idea whether that matters at all. i have been fishing around this site for answers, but at this point in my education most of what i read is almost unintelligible. any help would be greatly appreciated.

DVDDecrypter is no longer being updated and cannot handle some of the newer encryptions. I suggest you download free 21 day trial of AnyDVD from slysoft and have that running in conjunction with DVD Shrink

    Hi.
You changed two of the most influent ingredients to cook your disk. The media is priority no.1 if you want a good, long lasting copy. If you have the possibility try Verbatim or even Taiyo Yuden, they are 2 of the best brands out there.
Then, the speed should be kept @ 4x to be in the safety area all the time.

    [edit] You're too quick Gwendolin...

Try Slysoft's very own CloneDVD2... They work very well together.

tried that too. i got a message that said it is most likely due to "bad media." i suppose i need to shell out for some verbatim discs?

I don't think you'll be paying much more for Verbs than you already do for those ones you're using... How old are those disks? Have you got your burner's firmware up to date? If not your burner might not be recognizing the newer disks...

not too worried about paying a little more. just a question of finding them. will probably order them. as for updated firmware, i am about as computer saavy as a chimpanzee. my computer is less than a year old. i think my software usually offers me updates when i retstart my computer. i normally accept.

i also got this message after using clone dvd:
    media write error
    WriteDVD 10 11 W2

they were both downloaded from the software company's website minutes apart from each other. it is not a question of them being updated. i will have to try a new batch of dvd's and see what happens. any other suggestions would be great.
