Hello people, I just bought a Sony DW-D26A recorder (I also own a Sony DW-D18A) but the problem comes with the writable media. I´m not able to write at 2x with this drive using both Ritek Ridata 8x and Infomedia (Philips) 8x DVD-R. I cannot understand why this drive cannot write in slow speeds (because some DVD Players have problems with DVDs backed up at speed above 2x) and why the older drive (DW-D18A 8x DL) can write at 2x. The main problem is that using either Nero or Alcohol 120% they only let me choose from 4x to 8x speeds. Is there a way to force this drive to write at 2x?. Or flashing the drive an making it from a DW-D26A to DW-D18A? Because I´m looking for that feature. Thanks in advance. Greetings from Argentina. Mariano.
Hola mariano aqui desde colombia...so for everyone to understand..I have a sony DRU-710A and I also cant choose from speeds less than 4x, I asked in the forum and people just didint know the answer, I also asked sony support and they said "some drives just cant burn at less than 4x even arguing that the box said I could burn at 2X CLV, at lass one day I came to some weird kind of media, and it gave me the option to burn at less than 4x (1x,2x and 4x) and I decided to burn at 2x and "voila" session fixation error, I burn at 4x and I just investigated the problem (through nero log), and found out the drive was not recognizing the media propertly and that why it gave my those options but it came to burning various errors appeared so I decided to stick at 4x, maybe crossing firmware with a lite on (or so Ive read) could add other features, etc but not sure it will add the support to burn at less than 4x, and if it does it is still risky to use this firmware, so Im dissapointed to tell you that you may be stuck with no less than 4x with this drive SRRY :'( PS: I used varius software burning tools and no luck, also for you to understand some sony drives may related due to the fact that one maybe the OEM version of another, this is for you to understand why the problem with my DRU710A and your drive may be related...
Thanks for the advice! I´m also looking for another recorder (Pioneer DVR109) but I don´t know if I will be in the same position. Does anyone know a new recorder with that capability (old 8x recorders can write at 2x, but new ones are a real nightmare). Which is better, Pioneer, Sony or LG? Greetings. Mariano.
Ok my recommendation depends of what your needs are pioneer is a very good brand but unable to booktype to DVD-ROM which is a problem when it comes to DVD+R DL, due to the fact that some players are unable to recognize these media with the original bitsetting, so if you want to ensure compatibility with DVD+R DL media not an option, although Dual layer media comes booktyped as DVD-R (Douable layer=DVD+R DL, Dual layer=DVD-R DL), LG is very good an even has drive that burns DVD-RAM (obviously including DVD+R(W),DVD-R(W), Dual and Double layer media), actually sony rebrands Lite-ON so by buying a Sony your buying a Lite-ON, which they are actually pretty good, some times picky with media (not my drive), but very good in other terms. Samsung are a good option two and I can assure you that they burn at less than 4x, so you should take that as an option too, Very important and not to forget Plextors they are Superb you may take then as an option too... I will go with the LG or Sony because booktyping is very important to me, but I dunno if you care much about this feature, if you dont you should go with the pioneer (very good feedbacks)
Hi there, I have the NEC-3450a (Dell OEM of the NEC-3500) and father in law has the NEC-3520a They both support burning DVD-R at 2x. I burn everthing at 2x Never tryed DVD+R yet, but assume it will burn at 2.4x since I can burn DVD+RW at 2.4x
