What region are you,and what region are those Ebay discs?

When you insert that Ebay disc into your pc,you should get a message that says something like: Do you want to change the region of your drive? You can only do this 4 or 5 times. Final change, then it stays on that last region.

There's also hacked firmware for drives to be region free

A program called anydvd by slysoft will pull off the region code when you rip it on your pc.It pulls of encryption and makes dvd drives region free. They have a free 21 day trial and that's how I backed up some Japanese dvds that weren't in region 1 for a buddy. He couldn't watch them on his standalone player, but I used anydvd and my normal backup process of ripping with dvd shrink and autoburn with nero6.

Another thing to keep in mind is what format is that Ebay boxed set. USA-region1 is NTSC. Europe is mostly PAL,along with some other countries..

I use windvd 6. A very nice playing program. Powerdvd is also another good player. There should be some good -free ones out there.I don't know of any of them.

You may have to transfer the NTSC format into PAL,maybe not?If you have a problem with your backup, you'll probably get a black + white screen. That's out of my league, but someone here should be able to help you on that if it's the case.
