okay im getting a little peeved now at the fact that some of my posts keep on gettin removed. there are threads that i have answered questions on and then when i take a look to see if they need any more help or whatever my post has disappeared could someone please explain why this keeps happening
sometimes the thread has been moved to correct forum or is hidden because of certain things going on in that thread.
exactly. whilst i recognise your username from around the odd thread i don't recall seeing it in any i've been closing/hiding lately. i was on a thread-closing roll yesterday but that was all for piracy posts/multiposts etc
I noticed that the usually quite tolerent mods will let most posts roll because they usually sort themselves out 9 times out of 10. Lately i noticed someone seems to like closing threads for little or no reason. It will get noticed sooner or later
Hmmm i do belive we have a mystery...Kiff we have a kunundrum, search them for paper... and bring me a rock!
- i haven't noticed anything untoward. As for tolerance i am very tolerant but as time goes on i get less and less tolerant when i see how much childish crap/piracy/etc go on in threads where some kid starts/writes something he shouldn't then all hell breaks loose cus they think it's not gonna be noticed. Some examples of closed threads would be good...
...in fact he's what i wrote about this kind of thing here recently (snippet from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/267850) - (this was in response to rule breaking).. - spot on comment by the young darth. Before i was mod i used to hit that button like every 5mins. i had no idea what the mods saw when reports were made/whether it made life easier or harder, but i don't see things wrong and just ignore them. now i see the reports and they're an excellent help. However we need much more stuff reporting, this means ppl need to help us help them more by hitting that button as much as they can. Us mods do spend a lot of time actively searching/weeding out the idiots/misdemeanours/genuine mistakes etc but because a lot of members just 'turn the other cheek' there's only so much stuff we can sort out. - gonna repeat some of what i've said above i guess. Lately i myself have been venturing into some of the console forums and while a big part of the problem is the age group of a large chunk of the posters, a huge problem in the threads is that some members ignore lots of email posting/abusive language/behaviour instead of reporting it or just mention it to the person who's done those things. In those kind of forums it only takes one poster to post their email addy or start abusing someone and the whole thread degenerates. Like the other mods i swathe thru threads/posters like a grim reaper but there's so much crap in there that's not reported to us, that it feels like an impossible task. Every time i visit the forums, whether as a mod or as a contributor, and back when i was a member or addict, every single time i saw something wrong i reported it, we just need more ppl to do the same.
Best thing is when the mods step in, remain neutral (if there is no blatant violations) and keep the atmosphere as pleasant as possible. Without them i could imagine some of the bickering that would transpire on this site. As creaky and the other mods have always stated the use of the report offensive post button helps them handle the "ruffians" and lets the ones who need help/ helping others get down to business. P.S. I will be away for a few weeks due to a slight mishap but just wanted to check in. Take care all and will be back in a few weeks.
@matt72 - Happy New Year buddy, catchya later.. on a few troublesome threads i'm staying with the thread even though i have zero interest in the subject matter, ie Rugby League 2 for PS2, torrent invites etc. it's crap when that's what has to be done sometimes but if it keeps a few threads clean then so be it, hopefully then at leasst some ppl get the message
thanks and a late but happy new year to you creaky. I see alot has been going on so I'm off to catchup and hopefully help others who need it.
