First off do not tell me to go get a kreon drive. i am trying to do this with things i already have on hand and want to avoid spending money unless i have no other options. I have successfully made an .iso of Ninja Gaiden 2 using wxripper and this tutorial http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=548840 i stopped right after the .iso was completed and i have not done the ss merger steps and that is what my question is about. Is it really a must to download all the files and insert them manually or can i use ABGX and get it to patch for me and this be successfull good rip "safe" for using on live? I just ran it thru abgx and it finished while i was typing so here is what it says. In red it told me ss was missing and also the others such as dmi and all the rest. it then downloaded those files and said it autofixed successfully. so i said great lets try again and see what it says,,,,, and it says all passed verification. So am i good? if so then i am guessing that the ss merger stuff was used before abgx was around maybe? or am i wrong and it isnt a good rip? any help is appreciated guys. always know i can count on my afterdawn crew! EDIT: incase anyone is curious the drive i used is a Samsung TS-H492(got for free from a broken pc someone was gonna trash). i tried a pioneer DVR-106DVA but i wasnt doing the layout correctly and i thought it was the drive not working so i switched ot the samsung but the pioneer probably works i just screwed up.
WXRipper was actually out before the 360 was even able to be flashed. So yes, WX and Merger was used well before abgx was. Even so, I'd still trust abgx's autofix over downloading and installing the files (ss,dmi, pfi, video) manually.
actually this wx ripper is very easy and my life is the same lol from what i understand the kreon just does it without having to take the cover of the drive and do the hotswap and i wouldnt need to worry about the stealth checks with a kreon drive, am i correct. if that is the difference then i think i can keep using wxripper and put up with the extra steps that only take a few minutes at most. plus i dont have to go searching online for a drive and worry if i am getting ripped off. plus i am not spending the money and that was my whole goal but thanks for the replies guys. i just tried the backup of NG2 i made and it works great
The way you are doing it is the way I have been making back ups for a while with no problems or coasters, (20 or so)As long abgx has the game in their data base.As you have found out if it,s not there you have to wait, sometimes a long time
ok well if i am already ripping the game with an original copy and abgx doesnt have it i should be able to use abgx or some other program to extract those files from the same copy i ripped the iso from right? if so then that would only take a bit longer if not just the same amount of time as abgx does i would think.
That's where using either a Kreon drive or a Samsung/Benq from a 360 comes in. Any other regular pc drive can not read the ss, dmi, pfi, or video files. So while WX ripper was able to make an iso of the game, that iso doesn't have those security files.
That is my understanding using the hotswap method also, Which is where abgx comes in. with out these files you will burn coasters. Can you use a liteon drive from a 360?
ah ok i understand, well i can rely on wxripper and abgx for now. i am always looking for rrod systems to fix so maybe i will salvage a drive one day to use for this purpose. Thanks!
ok well not all is as well as i thought i ripped another game with this methind and it worked and passed abgx after autofix. i burned and it played fine but just for kicks i decided to run the discs i burned thru abgx. it finds all kinds of problems with the first game i ripped ninja gaiden and the 2nd game i ripped reports bad video partition. so i checked the iso files again and they are fine. so i dont understand why my discs burned from these same iso files are reporting errors. is checking burned discs with abgx not reliable and gives false positives??? this is very confusing EDIT: it seems many many of my games i am checking from the disc are reporting errors. and these are games ididnt rip but dled and checked thru abgx before burning. so either abgx checking from dvd isnt reliable or something is way wrong EDIT2: ok had another idea. i was thinking abgx has to be reliabe to check dvd cause some of mine do pass that way. so i took the same ng2 disc that gave so many error and ran thru abgx on a diff pc with diff drive and it passed....... im so confused LMAO i must seem like a retard right now
well on the copy of NG2 i ripped and burned when i check the dvd with abgx from my laptop which i burned it with i get so many errors i have never seen, first thing it says that it can find the xex2, and then many many more. BUT when i take the same dvd and out it in my desktop which also has a dual layer drive/burner it checks out 100% passing with no errors. so i ran the iso thru abgx one more time to be safe and i burned another copy and the same things, fail in one drive but pass in another. so i had a stack of 4-6 games that i had checked from disc previously and they failed for video or ini. so i decided to recheck all these with the desktop but they still failed for same reasosn. i did notice one thing, the games that failed from disc for ini 404 indicating the ini was not found, well i still have the iso for some of these and the iso passes and ini is found and checked? very weird im most concerned about the ninja gaiden rip i did. if it really is a bad rip with all those errors then i am gonna get banned for sure LOL cause i was on live with it. but i am suspecting it is good since it passes in the desktop when checked from DVD disc and the iso i made passes as well. I also ripped marvel ultimate alliance and it passes iso after autofix and burned and plays and passes from disc. i am not at home now which is where my burned copies are, but i do have my iso files with me at work if need to check and post some output. Thanks!
Hello, I wouldn,t worry about the read errors that your laptop gave you if it passed on your desktop ,because all burners are different some great, some good , some should just be thrown out before they are sold. eg; I have 3, an asus drw2014 great burner, pioneer dvr-a07 ( my hotswap burner) good burner, & a samsung dvd-rom always been a crap reader from day one
