Hi, I am interested in purchasing the Athlon64 x2-3800+ and ive been reading alot about overclocking it very well. I was wondering firstly if it is recommended, secondly will it be able to this on the ASUS A8N-E Motherboard.

Here is a link of a review of the chip and how much improvement the overclocking made on this chip.

What type (or specifically which one) cpu cooling system should i get if i do overclock? The case is the Scoprio 868. I believe it has like 3 fans in it.

    Thanx,
    Fabian

Hell yeah overclocking is recommended, it will probably not be that fast without it, at least in single threaded stuff. The asus should be able to OC ok, but a DFI board would do better.

Make sure you have at least 60cfm of airflow through your case. The best CPU cooler hands down is the XP-120 (other than phase or water). XP-90 is close but a few degrees worse under load.

I've seen a result of 2.8ghz stable on this chip.. that was with 1.6 volts, IHS ripped off (void warranty!), air cooling and 44 under load.

So definetly go for it! I'm getting this chip for my new system
