x264 and Xvid/DivX

Hi,

This may be a really silly question, but here goes.

Browsing some torrents lately I noticed some movies lited as Xvid and some as x264. The x264 were typically 2GB and the Xvid 1.4GB

I was wondering if the x264 encoded movies would play on my cheap little DVD player which is Xvid/DivX capable. The player is a Maya 606;

It doesn't list AVC/x264 so the files would require conversion to DivX.
