I have a friend who uses a silent 300W Power supply, and due to it's expense, does not want to upgrade it, but hasrecently moved to PCI express. His previous system was a Sempron 3000+ (A462 Barton) and 512MB RAM with a 6800GT (AGP). This ran fine on his 300W PSU. He is now using an Athlon64 3500+ (939 Venice) and 512MB RAM with just an X300Se for the time being. He is looking to upgrade to either an X800GTO or X800XL. Ideally of course the latter, but how does power consumption vary with the cards, and will he be able to run either? The previous motherboard was a standard ECS Socket A Board, and now he is using an Asus A8N-SLi Premium. Thanks in advance Sam
I run the X800GTO just fine on 250 constant and 300watts ma. Couldnt speak for the other card though. Also the X800GTO says on the box that you need direct power hook up but that is not true. I pluged it right into my PCI-e slot and it ran great.
Well, I'm really after a power spec figure relative to the cards, either the individual power figures for the cards, or power figures with the different cards in the same system. The power supply he's using is a Silverstone 300W Fanless, and as previously mentioned ran fine with an AGP 6800GT (sempron 3000). If the X800XL power usage uses a similar amount of power to the 6800, it should be fine. Thanks again Sam
