I am thnking about putting xbmc on my xbox, but not sure if it will be worth it..Im not sure of all the capabilities it has...If you have any say in this, please let me know...and also a link to a tutorial on how to install it would be great, Thanks... P.S. Im pretty sure you will read this Chunkhead, so this ones for you.. I have had unleashed X on my box for a couple years now, and i have always been able to sign on Xbox live without having to boot from my original MS dash first..The only way i was ever banned was when i forgot to take the actual modded maps of my box...but if my maps were clean, i could still boot unleashed x, get on xbox live, and was never banned...with that said, What is the point of a "duelboot?" And also, im starting to get very intested in all of this softmodding stuff, so do you have any suggestions of what i can do to make my xbox better. And should I stay with unleashed x, or upgrade to sumthin else...im just really trying to make my original xbox a bad mother trucker...so any advice you got for me, would be awesome..Please let me hear your thoughts on the XBMC as well... Any help would be great...
Personally I'm an XBMC freak! I love it, can't get enough! I have an extensive media collection (1.3 Terabytes) and counting, not to mention the 800 DVDs I still have to backup... The XBMC allows me to keep all my media on a server and stream it directly across my home network! It's all cataloged via the internet so it looks pretty and is easily accessible. It runs movies, tv and music. New features are added weekly and I am involved in the update\bug testing! Basically, you're a moron if you don't have this as a dash. There are almost no features missing from XBMC that other dashes have, however other dashes only dream about being XBMC. As for your Xbox LIVE issue... How you avoided ban is beyond me. I'm assuming you were using a genuine disc? Most, if not all users are banned within the first 15 mins of logging on! I have heard reports of LIVE not detecting the mod if the game is in the drive and you boot the Xbox from cold...
Yea i play halo 2 from the original disc.....i didnt know there was a way i could play without it..lol...i dont think i could do much with xbmc because i still have my stock hd for my xbox so i wont have much room to store stuff...how do u have 800 dvd's?! do you download them off of limewire or sumthin, then store em on ur xbox? im just trying to see what i could do to make it useful before i install it..and also, if i install it, will i still have my MS dash and my unleashed X dash?... And what other type of capabilities do i have with a softmod? all i ever used it for was so i could ftp my halo mods to and from my xbox and pc..i have never used it for anything else..thats y i was so clueless wen u were trying to help me with the error 05..but after bein on this site and lookin at ur tutorials, i wanna see what other type of stuff i could do with this softmodd other than mod for halo.I dont have any money to spend on other stuff like a mod chip or a bigger hd..so with me bein broke, what should i do to this damn Xbox?
I have HDDs in a server in another room. I stream all the media to the XBMC via my home network. All 4 TVs in my house have an Xbox running XBMC and they all have access to the server. I have about 1200 DVDs, I've already backed up 400, very slow process! Softmods will allow you to do anything a modchip will
ok so i downloaded xbmc from your software page. Every tutorial i read says that i need to drop it in E/Dashboard. I do not have that..My is c/dashboard... Anywayz, i highlighted all of the xbmc files and sent them to my xbox..But its like it overloads with work and tells me that the cnnection is to full, busy or lost. So i sent the files over 1 by 1...booted up the box, and my xbox came up in red letters and said XBMC fatal error...so i put unleashed x back on and tried doing it again. The next time i just got a black screen as a dash, but i could still play games.. I am using a program called CuteFTP and it has always worked before. I think i am doing somthing wrong.. When i extracted the whole xbmc to my pc, there was alot of files in there..I just went straight to the xbmc folder, and the ftp those files over.. Im not sure why this isnt working..Any help would be great!
i did what u said and it works!! Thankyou...but everytime i want to boot xbmc i have to go through unleashed x file explorer and click on xbmc/default.xbe.....i think thats the extension...how do i make it default so it comes on wen i turn on the box? also, how do i surf the net on xbmc? and last, how does xbmc work with xbox live? wen i want to sign on, what should i do? i dont want to get banned... but yea iv got about 12 dvd's and 367 cd's that im streaming of my dads server.... and not that it matters, but how old are you if you dont mind me asking? i only ask because you are very intelligent and you said u are a network engineer..that is my dads profession as well and hes 38...im thinking about going to school for computer forensics...im only 17 tho, so i still got some time left to think... thanks for your help!
XBMC doesn't go online in the sense you are describing, but it can use the internet to gather information (TV scrapers, etc) To use LIVE you need to boot to the original dash. XBMC allows use of XLink Kai. Read the XBMC wiki manual to learn how to switch it do a dashboard! For the record I'm 24 years old...
I have a similar setup chunk. I don't have a central point like you. I use several large hd's in each xbox and just pull from movies on one, music and games on another, and television on the third. It really is impressive when friends come over and see my setup.
