Just download xbmc, unzip it then ftp to wherever u have ur Apps folder (e.g. E:\Apps\XBMC\ or F:\Apps\XBMC\) When u boot ur xbox select:launch menu\Apps\XBMC and it should start up. That's the basic install.

Now, if sum1 could please help me set up xbmc as my default dash. I know about all those tuts out there, but either they're too complex or I'm just too stupid to understand them. I tried editing the xml <home> tag (<home>E:\Apps\XBMC\</home>) & renaming xbmc default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe then placing them in C:\ but it didn't work. In fact, this actually prevented my xbox from even detecting that I had xbmc on it. Please, no lectures on how useless or ignorant some ppl can be. Not all of us can be über-hackers. thx

r u having problems with ne file u try 2 transfer, or just xbmc? also r u trying 2 transfer the entire file at once? try creating the xbmc folder in ur Apps first then ftp the sub-folders from ur pc individually to ur xbox. that's wut i did when i installed xbmc on my xbox. it's the same thing i did when i put stepmaniax and i haven't had ne problems with either of 'em. good luck, man.

wow! 30. i don't have ne dvd's on my hd so i can't tell u from personal xperience. but it's my understanding that xbmc can play ne & all types of media. i've played avi, mpeg, even divx on xbmc. so, i imagine it can handle dvd ISOs or VOBs.

as far as streaming video... there u have me. i have no bloody clue if xbmc can do that, or even if the xbox hardware will allow it. give it a try. hey u never know. right?

XBMC has the name "default.xbe" (if you notice all of the dashboards have that name) so to get that as you loading dash put it in the dashboard folder with all of the files it needs to run. there now it will be your start up dash.

so you can put other dashboards in your apps (ex: MXM, Evo X, etc.) folder and run them from there. I've done this before it is simple.

    llama8u,
just 2 b on the safe side, which r the "necessary" files xbmc needs 2 run?

    cearel,
did u create the requisite folders for those items? in ur E drive (or F drive, which ever ur using) u should have created ur "Movies", n "Music" folders. ftp ur movies & music in2 they're respective folders. run xbmc, 4 ur movies select the "My Videos" tab, then select the drive ur movies r in (E or F), select the "Movies" folder, select the movie u want 2 watch, then pass the popcorn. (lol) 2 listen 2 ur music follow the same steps xcept ur gonna select "My Music" then ur "Music" folder instead.

if u ripped music 2 ur xbox b4 modding it (with the M$ Dash), from the xbmc dash select the music tab, on the next screen look 4 the HD icon labeled "MS Soundtracks". select it 2 listen 2 ur other music files.

ok, this is wut my E drive looks like (n wut ur E drive should probably look like) :

    E:\
    Apps
    backup_linux
    BiosLD
    CACHE
    Dashboard
    Emulators
    Games
    Movies
    Music
    Pictures
    SAVES
    TDATA
    UDATA

the folders in bold r the 1s where ur gonna ftp ur emulators (if ya got ne), games (again, if ya got ne), movies/videos, music, & pictures. b careful not 2 ftp ne format file in2 the wrong folder (e.g.: a music file in ur movie folder). as xbmc will recognize that said file is present in that folder, but it won't play it. after that, just follow my previous directions 2 access ur stuff. hope this helps.

it is easier if you put you media contents in another sub folder it keeps it more organized
    E:\media\
    Movies
    Pics
    Music

but hey do what you want to do
