xbox 360 is not as good as original xbox ... yet

just bought an xbox 360 pro with 20 gb hdd and it was not what i expected .
-problems conecting with the network
-noisy fan
-can not upgrade to a bigger than 120 gb hard drive ....120 gb its nothing on these days.
-got to do some work like downloading ,installing blah blah, just to do some web browser or to stream videos and probably wont work.
-not much graphics difference between the original xbox games.
-and the worst....can not add emulators and play old games.

we are in 2009 it suppose to make things easier.

i am going back to my old xbox. where i can do lots of stuff and not just playing games and listen and view limeted amount of music and video.

i really did not like it it may be because i am more into music and videos and not into those new games.

thats why i prefer original xbox or maybe the playstation 3 i heard it can be upgraded to a 500 gb hdd thats a start.

 

Learn how to properly set it up and it won't be a problem.

I really don't notice fan noise. At least not much difference between Xbox/Xbox 360.

Good enough to store photos/game saves etc. etc.

It can stream video and audio perfectly fine if you know what your doing.

Are you serious? Get your eyes checked.

If you want Emulators for other platforms then you can always pull the old Xbox out.

 

Ha ha ha . The part about the graphics not being different made me laugh.
Are you playing your xbox 360 through a a crappy little standard definition CRT television in a cave somewhere or are you a PlayStation 3 fan boy in disguise?

 

If your really into movies and music and not so much the games I highly recommend you get the Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player. Its a little box that you can plug an external hard drive into and play just about any format of music and video you can download off the net, especially MKV format which the 360 can't. It does 1080p too. Its got a remote and everything and pretty cheap for what it can do and the software is upgradable down the track. If i didn't have my PC plugged into my tv I would buy one in a second.

It appears that the op is judging the 360 poorly when compared to the Xbox in terms of using it more as a media center than a gaming console. And when looking at it like that his comments are valid.


As for the WD HD box... spend a little more and get the Popcorn Hour instead. That WD box is pretty limited. You can't stream and no component out.

 

Xbox 360 pro comes with a 60 GB hard drive since the end of last year. I just bought mine new from Dell for about $250. You bought an old model. Hope you like red rings.

 

I prefer Atari.... or even the original Pong.

 

What a joke you knew before you bought it,it would'nt do what the xbox could however you can install games to it as well as add external hdd's tho i have'nt tried that yet or even know what i'msposed to do once i have,that said i feel your pain the ol xpoxes are bloody brilliant in fact i liked the idea of chipping i went further & ended up getting the extender kits for mine so both have 3 hdd's each which i intend to upgrade in size to 3 tets (3x 1 tet drives),tho i'll only do one off the bat as a test run since the xbox is fat32 format things might not go smoothly in which case it may mean using 750's then i'll do the other & more than likley do the spare two i have as well

 

Sergiovv, I bet my N64 will give you a run for your money graphics wise.

 

i paid 250 for this one and bought it because its modded and i may learn something out of this.
i have to say that i just spend a couple of hours trying to fix things by my self like networking or streaming videos, after i got tired i started googling as usual looking for a tutorial or something that guide me to the right direction. then i stopped and asked my self why do i have to do this.
i know it can be fixed but why do we have to FIX it if its a modern machine it has to be a plug and play device.

as for the videos and music i have around 300 gb of music and video it will never fit in a 120 gb hdd.
and also i like the idea of having my games also inside the same hdd just in case a nephew comes home so i dont have to unplug anything.

and i never liked playstation but if you can do there what i can do in my old xbox thats make think about it.

and now that i am reading everything about xbox 360 i did read somewhere that you can get the red ring on every xbox360 even in the elite version.

 

I don't think the 360 was design with you or your media taste in mind. This is a gaming machine and Microsoft was nice enough to include the media features. But seriously, every thing in the world can't be perfect and neither is the 360. Everything you listed dogging the 360 compared to the original XBOX could not be achieved without some sort of mod. So I'm sure you spent quite a bit of time doing everything to your original XBOX to meet your high standards.

 

The fact of the matter is microsoft doesn't want you to be able to do the stuff that people can do on the orginal modded xbox. Leerage is right. You do have to mod the stuff in order to do all the music and videos you want. Microsoft wants you to PAY them for all this stuff through their services(Xbox Live). This was Bill Gates way of doing things from the start. Yeah it would be nice if I could stream and look at the mkv files but they already know if they allow that then you won't purcashe the HD content from their services. This is their way of doing business and the reason that MODs and homebrewed software are made. Its the freedom of choice vs the way of making capital.

and i bet that someday in the future when 360 sales slow down they will release some information and going to make it look like someone hacked the system and made the xbox 360 do what the origal xbox can do so the sales will go up a little.

but by that time they will release a new device then the people with enough money will buy it to see whats new ..............oh man!!!

You need tversity. Everything is stored on your pc and streamed to your 360. Alot cheaper than using a 120 gig drive on an xbox when you can use unlimited space on your network. The 360 is yet the best system ever, you just have no clue what you are doing.

 

lmao.. would've been cheaper at the outset to get a decent vid card for the comp & save some bucks than getting a 360 or ps3 just to stream,yeah anyway the reason he likes his modded xbox 1 is convenience all wrapped up in a neat little package no mess no fuss & no piss'n about,well after the chip is soldered & the hdd's setup..lol..

 

Most of the "problems" you listed can be "fixed" or avoided.

If this is your first time connecting w/ the network, than you’re most likely to run in problems.

As for the noisy fan, upgrade to the NXE dashboard and install your games to HDD. (Once you get a connection that is).

As for the hard drive, you CAN upgrade to a larger HDD. Believe me, I had the Pro years ago with the 20GB HD, then after upgrading to the Elite w/ 120GB HD, I still have a lot of room left (about 45 GB), even after installing my games (a lot) to HDD, and I also have a lot of downloaded videos and demos.

As to doing work, you should always put some effort into setting up your entertainment systems to get the most out of it, as you would with any electronics (ie. PC, PS3, etc.) If you want to browse the web, just do it on your computer. It's faster and easier that way.

As with the graphics, I really disagree with you there. Take a look at some X360 screen shots, just to name a few (Fallout 3, Gears 1+2, Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, Prince of Persia, Bioshock, SW:Force Unleashed, NHL 09, GRAW 2, I can go on and on).. Ok, now compared those screenshots to older xbox games (ie. NFS: Underground,Kabuki Warriors...), and you'll see why I disagree.

As for older games, yes you can't play ALL of the old Xbox games yet, but most of them are backwards compatible with the 360 (usually the more popular titles).

I highly recommend that you don't switch back to the Xbox Original. If you just put a little effort into reading the manual and setting it up, I'm sure you'll find it is a much better console and will have a much better entertainment/gaming experience with it.

 

Differences between original xbox and xbox 360 (both modded)

now that i got both systems i can see by my self whats good and whats not about 360.

-original modded xbox can FTP ,360 not
-xbox plays music,videos,pictures,from folders and library ,360 only library
-xbox emulates all old systems, 360 none
-xbox easy stream youtube videos,360 got scream,dance,cry,download,install,call names, just for one miserable single video.
-xbox stores all of your games in hard drive and never use disc again,360 lets you feels like you can do the same thing but got to use the discs anyways.
-xbox can use a 1.5 tb hard drive (tested) ,360 only 120 gb thats a shame.
-xbox graphics very good, 360 yeah thats the only advantage.
-xbox red ring? heard it couple times easy to fix,360 heard about 100 cases but can be fixed with a towel
-xbox its a little out of shape and ugly, 360 yeah its CUTE?
-xbox uses a great media center (XBMC),360 not one yet.
-xbox .want to play another game? ok just reset the xbox from your controller and chose another one, 360. want to play another game? stand up walk to the collection of games you have,chose one,open the case,take the one you have in the 360 out and put the another one in and go back to your seat thats all.

people that i know did not know about the things that can be done in a regular xbox.
Now that i told them and showed them the great XBMC .some of them are selling or trading their xbox 360 to get a modded original xbox.This its a living true.

i was playing street fighter in my 360 ,...looks good then i started playing splinter cell 3 in my original xbox and looks awesome.

I hope someday 360 learns what his father can teach him.

 

dude we get it, you think xbox is better than 360. i highly doubt you're going to get anyone here to agree with that. as for people you know now getting rid of their 360's to get an xbox- i hope they enjoy 5 year old games.
