i cant see it needing to be modded... i have a modded xbox (i live in australia - its not illegal here ) and i also have a unmodded xbox for live. with all the functionality their putting towards their new console, why would u risk getting it locked off the net? i think ppl considering modding it are just being stupid. and to the canadian who says family comes first, well, i think its time to grow up and stop cheating ppl out of money
You need to shut up, you dont know me. I work my ass off buddy, im 18 and livin the life of a 30 year old, and you say shit like that to me. You're an ass.
Oi.... People, there is nothing to prove here, this is just a forum discussion. Hence my debate towards the answer given: I myself own two unmodded xbox's for XBL: one in my room and one if the front room. Now, there is no proof of the X360 having an eprom-tamper ban for XBL, and there is nothing saying that the X360 hard drive will be locked to that console like the xbox now. Being that the HD will now be upgradadable it will have to do an .xbe patch to that HD to lock it to the console. That in turn would need to generate a new HD key for a new HD, which would contradict the point of putting in a larger HD. And they can't lock External HD's, that's like saying, "We will now lock your iPod/PSP to this console/device...." It is not fesible nor wise of MS doing that. The fact that someone will come up with a mod for X360 is on the pure basis of evolving set programs now and "Homebrew" type programs. People will do ot when it is distributed. MS has such a strong hold on having J. Allard saying, "Customize to the owners will....", then that's waht modders will do. Please keep the ome fights at home, and if you persist get a phone number and do it then. My 2 cents again, I guess 4 cents now.
i'll take ur 4 cents, and give u some fore-sight. no matter what anyone here says, me included, know 4 sure, BUT look how MS has integrated everything on your pc, look how it attached itself to being online dependent for proper funcionality, thats just software...imagine what they will do when they control every aspect of a PC (honestly, xbox360 is more powerful then most ppls pc's) with that, they will find ways to eliminate "theives" and "rebels". but..since i am not holding a 360 in my hand, its speculation. but 4 what its worth...online gaming is the only thing worth time anymore...so modding is a mute point nowadays.
Not absolutely true and I have seen no fore-sight in that answer. MS controlling your PC is pure speculation. "People" (i.e. your thieves, and so forth) have found and will always find away around a certain "barriers". Now, I'm not one of them as I only know and take what I read, but I know alot of people who have XP and hate SP 2 and the automatic updates. And the fact is if you don't like it, don't buy it or use it. Get Linux, it's better. Here's a fact: only %10 of market sold Xbox's are currently online. That's 9 million active Live members against the 90 million that own an Xbox (MS studies and calculations). Due to the fact that not everyone has broadband yet. I know you maybe thnking, "How can someone not have DSL or Cable...?" A good majority of those who are not Live Enabled are in family's where; a.) a PC nor internet is deemed necessary or to expensive; b.) the average person who owns an Xbox is noy old enough to have a credit card; c.) if yoou were like me, your parents would never fork over their card number to you just so you can lock youself in your room to play games all day and night. I believe that modding, in some ways, will come back to hit us in the end. Not legal wise, but think about it: One "thief" pirates a game, distributes it. Ten people give it to ten more, and to ten more, etc. Before long your not only making a small dent in a corporate company's pocket, your preventing the producing and marketing of games to dwindle. That money for that game goes against some developers budget to make a better game. They come around and charge you more for it, or mask it in an Limited Edition case. And the game BLOWS!!! We have seen it, don't deny it. Now, I do not have a X360 in my hand either, but I will midnight at launch. When I do have it I will do what I want with it. If I break it, I buy another. That is my choice and my money. If I spend $300 on it, break the seal and open it, it's not illegal. I just voided my warranty. But the fact remains I will probably not because it's soooo pretty. =) I will not anticipate "mods" for it, but if a buddy comes over and says, "There's a homebrew BLAH BLAH BLAH..." I'm all over like white on rice. It's all progress, evolution, and understanding how things work for me.
I have given all my banter. If you still disagree, so be it. I just try to give a different perspective instead of spewing what I've been fed (Even though it may seem like it, I have not ben fed, I choose to read and learn what I want). Just be open minded is all I ask. Being closed minded just finds you hitting brick walls.....HARD!! Enjoy!
lcarbutt has made the most sense in this whole thread. i want to think you are right but its a geek war nowadays.. they are good geeks that create the stuff for us, and bad geeks that wanna hack other geeks.. lol..and most of the times the bad geeks that hack wins. i cant believe the price of this thing either. i aint gonna be coughing that type of money for a vidogame console.. did it for the ps2 when it first got release, only to punch myself a year and something months later when they dropped the price. This thread is too damn premature to begin with.. the only thing people have to go with are the pictures, and functions of the system.. no hands on yet. jeez peoples, wait. by the way, ive been away from the scene for a while, wanted to know if theyve hacked the psp yet?, last i heard they could load homebrew games to it.. but thats it..
It can be modded. It will be modded. Because we can... If xboxs weren't modded, would the 360 be the way it is?
I've heard different, not solid, but possible.. something that at first glance seems ludicrous but when you consider the deviousness of Microsoft in taking market share and desperation to be the dominant power in every field it makes more sense... I heard the XBOX 360 would be the most modable console of all. Initially locked, but not solid enough to stop the modders getting direct access to all that lush hardware. Consider: Sega made the dreamcast and it was an excellent console, but the problem was that it was incredibly easy to hack - a genuine mistake on Sega's part. Console sales were huge but almost everyone had copied games. Sega lost out and it pretty much bankrupt them because they didn't see the returns they set out for. Microsoft wants the dominant share of the market.. they have enough money to take a loss from this initial venture. Imagine the console being SO hackable that tonnes and tonnes of mods and homebrew stuff comes out for it - game sales are low but it doesn't matter - competitors products fail to spark enthusiasm, 360 sales are huge. Competitors take a loss and go downhill, leaving Microsoft as the number one for the next generation. A possibility?
Everything is hackable. It is a game for these people to try and beat each other. They get a high from it. The manufacturers come out with something and say it is mod proof or unhackable. Then the hackers work day and night to hack it. It is this way with games, movies, music, software etc... It will go back and forth like this forever or until someone gives up (which I don't see happening). There is always someone smarter and better than the person before them. This being said, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will eventually be beaten. It may only take 1 month or it may take 1 year but it will happen and then everybody will move on to the next round.
Team Xecuter is currently developing a modchip for the XBOX 360. No news on when it will come out or any features or w/e, but it is in development. Expect it out around or a little after XBOX 360 is released.
What? Developing a mod chip for hardware they know nothing about.. hardware that isn't even finalised? Send me a link with some hard evidence and I'll bow down. But this sounds like jive-ass sucka talk.
Developing a modchip is not reliant on having the hardware. They could have designs, but the BASE of the modchip development is capable bios writing, memory cache/banks, etc. Here is what Team Xecuter has to say as they have a much broading understanding than anyone seems to be posting on these boards: "We've spent today doing a little more digging. It seems the Xbox 360 will use AES Encryption (XeCryptAesCbc), executable files are XEX and not XBE (xshell.xex) and after studying the kernel there is everything in place for backwards compatibility." -AND- "We are also heaving into Xbox 360 background development. We pretty much understand all the software side of things now - all we need now is the hardware - which will be sooner than it hits the shelves we assure you." And this is months before most people knew anything about the console. They even know the root executables, the kernel, and that there is everything there for COMPLETE backward's compatibility (be it M$ or Homebrew has not been stated, yet), which most tech's don't know! I'm just tired of people claiming they know better. This should be the DEFINITIVE topic stopper. I think now that this should be locked and bumped all the way back in the pages. If you don't believe the posts, visit the site and do a search for Xbox 360 in the news archives. And if you don't believe the leaders in the Xbox Modding Community, you are truly lost and need to find other forums to post on. You, Tomosx, are a true newblette in her prime. Get the facts before posting bantha fodder. http://www.teamxecuter.com/ Happy hunting!! As Johnyy Storm/Human Torch says, "Flame On!!"
Accept my apologies! I'm sure they can start to design a chip if they know about the executables to be run on it. But you must admit it probably won't be finalised until they get their hands on some real hardware.
hey i can think of 1 guy who knows the answer and his gamer tag is HiroProtagonist dotn belive then watch the ourcolony vidoe and google then add him on live and harass the hell out of him then play live with him and track his ip and break into his house.
reading this, i realized that almost everone who responded to this post, is friggin retarded. "most" of you are a bunch of tar babies, i cant believe the things i have read. someone said, "why mod this system"... someone said, "you wont be able to mod this sytem, its too online dependant"... someone said, "why mod a good system, for once just buy the games" for all of you, i am currently accepting donations, please send them through paypal on my website: http://www.ibonedyourmom.com and for every intelligent person reading these posts, of course they will mod the xbox 360 a few months after it has been out. someone out there will have it done, if it isnt me first. Also, you can still go online with modded systems, i do it all the time. I have one xbox with a switch (which will still be available on xbox 360), and one with a softmod that still goes online. Some of you may be asking, how is it possible to go online with a softmod, well... im doing it and im doing it on xbox live.... so there. Microsoft knows how much money they made, that they wouldnt have.., had they not left the ability to mod the system present. so.... it will be on xbox 360 as well. good day.
People, if you have done your homework on the xbox 360 it is quite obvious that modding this system is going to be a peice of cake compared to modding the last system. Now you dont have to be a modding xbpert to figure this out. But, the xbox 360 does come with a USB port and on the official description and techs on it, it does state pictures, music, media, and SOFTWARE will be able to be streamed smoothly strait from the computer to the xbox and visa versa I rest my case
well i have done some research on the matter. trying to find all the possibilities. and i came across a small rumor, i dont know how true it is though... said there was a switch inside that once the case was takin off it would paralize the 360 unable to boot or do anything, this way it keeps everyone out except microsoft. if this is true, there might be a big lawsuit involved cuz thats like a dealership locking you out of your own car. preventing you from being able to fix it yourself. Just thought id throw that out there.
Consider this: There are now currently 6 (or 7?) different versions of the original xbox, partially to protect against modding. Now consider that every single version of the xbox has been sucessfully modded not only to copy and homebrew games, but also to play ONLINE. Consider that banks and big named companies spend more money then you make in a lifetime in just one year to protect against hackers or any other security threat. Still, the geek evolves with, and often above, current security technologies. The PSP was modded the first day it came out. The human mind is amazing, don't underestimate it. Any nerd with enough motivation and time can and will mod the xbox360. With all the hype the 360 has right now and none of the skepticism that the original xbox had, the 360 has become the biggest, shiniest, target of any fame-seeking super-geek. So my guess is within a few months, unless copyright/pirating laws become punishable by death anytime soon...
exactly... i agree completely. the people that develope this technology are human, which means that unless microsoft has the smartest man alive working for him.. he is still out there somewhere
