Looks like it's a hardware failure of the ethernet port and not that the component went bad but only became disconnected.

If you watch this video he demonstrates a ghetto fix similar to the towel trick.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67sbmlJ2_ek

There are other videos like this with all the same/similar techniques for fixing the e73 error.

Now should you do this to an xbox?
Absolutely not, you can damage it worse than it already is.

How should you go about fixing this error?
There are a few people on afterdawn that have solder rework/reflow machines. It looks like all you need to do is get your mb reflowed and it will fix this error. If i were you i would start a new thread asking who has these machines and who can perform a reflow for you.

You could just replace the x-clamps. I have done this on a few E73 all are still working. X-clamps works if done correctly my oldest repair is 9 months and it still hasnt come back, apart from a firmware update

Its not unfixable it to do with the southbridge on the gpu chip if memory serves me correct. Like i said i have done a few with x-clamp replacement, or you could just get the board reflowed.

Actually if it was the southbridge that would make perfect sense.

I don't see the ethernet port flexing at all, so the problem would have to be around the major flexing zones. So i googled and came across this.

South Bridge Connection through PCI express

The GPU is connected with the South Bridge chipset (I/O controlling unit) through a dual PCI Express interface (10GB/sec). The South Bridge chipset also includes an XMA decoder for audio, reducing the load on the CPU. The external I/O interfaces include SATA (20GB hard drive, 12x DL DVD recorder), USB Memory Unit ports (MU), ethernet controllers etc.

Looking at this technical outline confirms it

So it looks like you could fix it by doing the xclamp replacement and heating up the xbox as described in this tutorial.
