    Hi there everyone,
i'm in need of a little help. i've got my hands on a 2006 xbox 360 with a samung ms28 dvd drive init. the system kept saying please insert cd into an xbox 360 console everytime gta4 was put in. i bought a new samsung ms28 drive and used the old board from the old dvd player and put it in the new driver but still it says please insert cd in to an xbox 360 console. the console itself has no red lights and starts up and goes into the xbox menu system. any suggestions would be fab......
    many thanks

    Is the console flashed/modded?
Are these original or backup games?

    hi,
as far as i know the console has only had the usual rrod repair. the dvd drive that came with the xbox when i got it was full of dust and rubbish and didn't look like it had been opened so i'm guessin it's not been touched until i got my hands on it. the game i'm trying to play is an authentic xbox 360 gta 4 game, i dont trust copied games etc to be honest. i haven't attempted to flash nothing yet. but is there a way to tell if someone has had a go at flashing it???
cheers for your reply by the way...
    Paul

    There are two possibilities here.

1.) The drive was so dirty that it gunked up the laser and now either the entire drive or the laser itself needs to be replaced in order for it to work.

2.) Somebody tried to flash the drive, but forgot to write the DVD key to it.

Both of these possibilities will produce the same result. To see which it is, connect the drive to your PC via SATA cable and dump the firmware using Jungle Flasher.

If it is stock firmware and a DVD key shows up, it is #1.

If it is a modified firmware and a DVD key shows up, it could be either #1 or #2 (somebody could've flashed the wrong key to it).

If no DVD key shows up, it is definitely #2 and you are screwed unless you do the JTAG hard-hack to the Xbox and grab the DVD key from the NAND chip.

Shall i use the old board or use the new board that came with the new dvd driver! Cheers for ur help on this! Paul

Chances are 99% likely that you incorrectly flashed your old drive's key onto your new drive.
