im having problems with the E74 error and wanting to know if there is a way to fix this. i bought my 360 used and apparently out of warranty when said it wasn't. Just wondering if it can be fixed or am i screwed with a broken box?
Microsoft said your Xbox was out of warranty? I would fight with them to make them replace it. Don't tell them that you bought it used, that will void any warranty that you have.
last week i called microsoft and told them about this E74,,, they said have you registered it??? no i hadnt,,,,, had it for xmas last year,, no problem said the chap,,,, register it now,,,, so they now have every bit of info off me apart from me spectacle prescription and the size of me feet!!!! they emailed me a lable and im to send it back to MS as its covered,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, meanwhile i sent it off to be repaired as its flashed,,,,, chap there cant fix it as its too big a job ( as mentioned in this forum) and the best bet would be to send it to MS and hope someone dont noticed the flash and just fix it,,, worse case is they will phone us and say its gonna cost this much etc etc as its been modded,,,,,,, which im hoping for the first one,,,,,,let you know,, good luck!
same thing happened to me after the stupid download have no idea how to fix it yet. all my games get this greenish tint- like night vision googles- online or off line, it fades in and out somtimes , other times it stays greenish
Hey guys/gals! I found this thread searching for this exact same problem. This morning my 360 started with the whole "green tint" problem. It comes and goes. I tried swapping out different cables and hooking it up to other TVs. At this point, it's obvious it's the console. I originally placed a repair order online via xbox.com for $99. However, my 360 JUST went out of warranty three weeks ago (how convenient) so I called and canceled the repair order with the hopes that it would eventually RRoD, since that is fixed for free. Anyone else have any input or solutions to this? Sounds to me like this is as major and as common of a problem as the Red Ring of Death.
I don't have a 360 but am really good in computers and basically since the PC and 360 are very simmilar, I can tell you that the green tint is a graphics card problem that will most likely lead to the RROD. The graphics card in the 360 is partially fried. Just call them and lie telling them that you get an RROD after 10 minutes of playing or purposly make it overheat somehow.
Hmm, I don't know what happened there. All I was saying was call MS telling them that you get the RROD with 10 minutes or gameplay, get the RROD on purpose by overheating it, or just lie telling them that you have the RROD. I work around computers and since they are simmilar to the 360, I know that a green tint on the screen is a sign of a failing video card or corrupted drivers, but I dont think drivers is an issue in the 360. Above post fixed, for some reason it quoted the whole thing including what I said.
Agreed. I make games for a living on the PC and 360 (programmer). I guarantee you either the GPU or the A/V out connector on the motherboard is toast. I already called and got 50% off on the repair. But forcing a RRoD is not a bad idea either.
My original 360 went in for service a month ago and came back today finally after being sent to the incorrect return address... BROKEN. It has the same damn greenish tint, and its not intermittent, its always there. Seriously do they not check these things before they go out, this is ridiculous! Tech support says I gotta check the cable before I go through the whole process again (even though the tech assistance basically admitted he agreed there was no way a cable would just "go out" while sitting there awaiting an xbox replacement, nor could it cause a greenish tint). Im pretty happy right now. Im hoping I can talk the service department into sending another unit straight off instead of the refurbishment bs, but seems unlikely because of liability.
Its funny how many people kept posting how thy thought it was this or that, and another guy even posted twice guessing it was the gpu(after someone else already said that, but with more information that "its like that for pc's"). sp7ke knows his stuff, at least on this issue. Everything looks green because you are no longer sending a blue signal to the tv. I promise you, a green tinted look is caused when you have a problem with the gpu or either your HANA or ANA chip, depending on which your box came with. If I remember the first boxes had ANA, and they changed to HANA later, to prevent problems like this. Yeah that worked really well. When the HANA starts to die, you lose blue. When it is all the way dead, it changes to an E74 error. there is then 1 red light. Even though it is common to have the HANA chip go out in conjunction or right before a red ring occurs, M$ does not cover it. We are luck hey even cover the red ring as long as they do. If you have owned a few xboxes and you get fatal errors all of the time, I think its time you learn how to take care of your system. Do not stand it up! you are setting it on the side that has holes to allow air to enter. Standing it up causes heat issues, which lead to this kind of crap. Also, make ure your 360 has plenty of room around both intake holes an exhaust holes, because your 360 is going to have problems if it can not breath. people who cry bout the RRod or the E74 are like people who leave their disks lieing around that get all mad when they cant be read anymore. Oh, and to the person who said they were gunna go get a ps3 instead..... People talk a lot of crap obout M$ because of this problem, but it is a common problem with this generation of consoles. The PS3 can get a red ring of death error. It may not show you a red ring of 3 lights, but it will turn on, been 3 times, and then turn off. Sony publicly denies that this is a problem(I did get a tech support person to admit it once), and they do not cover it at all, no 3 year replacement, no nothing. I have also replaced quite a few blue ray decks, and that is an obnoxious nightmare compared with replacing a 360 dvd drive (plus the blue ray deck costs twice as much!). So go and buy whatever system you enjoy playing the most. Buy the one that has the features and games you want. Just remember, you can alwys just move your 360 hd to a new concole, but if you try to just stick in your old hd from you broken ps3, it will reformat all your data off. so you have to start over every time! Yay!
I had the same problem, with HDTV. I found it out! It's probably not the same as you guys but... i was using the HDTV switch on the xbox 360, and i was plugging the cords into the HDTV. You need to plug in ALL the HDTV plugs + the white&red audio cords from normal TV. Then you no longer have the green tint.
A damaged or partly unplugged cord can cause color issues. Not plugging n the audio cords has NO EFFECT on the color. However, some people try a known working cord, and make sure it is plugged in all of the way, and still have green tint. For those people it is obviously not the cord, and it is the ANA/HANA chip going bad. For a fact. For sure. No doubt.
Just for some people who might be having problems with this that have done the x-clamp fix; I did the x-clamp trick, and it worked well for about 2-3 weeks, then I started to get weird coloring as well, mostly an overpowering red tint to the screen, sometimes blue, with it looking pixelated. All I did was give the heatsink screws a little turn and made sure they were really tight and havent had a problem since.
