I don't think you plug wifi max into the 360, you plug it into your pc, unless am mistaken but everything on Google is on about it being an access point. For the 360 you need the official Microsoft wireless adapter

i thought that also but when i tried to use an ethernet cable from my laptop to the xbox it would see the cable but not connect to the internet. if that is the case do you think it would be worth it to just buy the officail microsoft adaptor for the xbox and if so do you know where there are any that are cheap?

    Thanks again,

    Aaron

You can do a cable straight from the laptop to the 360 but it has to be a "crossover" cable. You can make these from regular network cable or buy them separately. Then you setup internet connection sharing and you have connectivity on the 360.

Alternatively you can also use a spare router if you have one and flash it with DD WRT firmware. Then set it for client bridge mode which will let you connect to your main wireless router through the LAN ports

I used a straight network cable
in the network adapters on the pc (laptop) select the wireles and wired adapter and bridge them. then just conect a standard network cable from pc to xbox. As long as the pc is getting its internet wirelesly from a router that should be it, only other points on my set up are im using windows 7 (dont think that changes anything) and the router is set as a dhcp server, and the xbox is set to factory default

ditto... I have been doing this for a while with a regular Ethernet cable (not sure of cat5 or cat6 but doesnt matter with XBL) on both Vi$ta and W1N7.
