So I've identified this chip as an Aladdin chip, but I'm wondering if I can pop in a new hdd, as the other is busted. I should clarify, that this XBOX was bought on a flea market, and I've not installed this myself. I've posted a pic for reference

Use the AID disc to set up the hdd (slayers is outdated) the link below will most probably have it,if not i can upload an iso to mega.You can use any hdd upto 2tb,however to format it you'll need the new updated partitioner also at link below.The site below will have any info you need as it's an active original xbox site http://www.theisozone.com/
