I have heard that by replacing the drive in your XBox for one of the special ones of eBay you can play backups. Does anyone know if this is true?
first time i hear that but .......... i would also like to know the answer .......so i guess we've all wasted our time and money modding
To my Knowledge, You can't simply replace your dvd drive and play backups. you have to install a modchip, or softmod your box.
if you go to this link there are a lot of tutorials on this. However I do not recomend this if you are new to the scene. You can really screw up your xbox if you do this wrong. I would recomend soldering in a chip. But, this is up to you. here's the link for a lot of the tutorials. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=165336
Sorry guys, the drives on eBay will not be able to play anything but original games. The reason why they sell those drives is because they read all types of media flawlessly, and if you have your Xbox modded that comes in handy. For example one of my modded Xbox's has an LG drive in it, which can play plain backup CD-R's and every other type of media perfectly. Before I had an Thomson drive, and it could not read backup cd-r's or dvd-r's what-so-ever. lukej101, here is a little guide on softmodding: http://minnwild.8.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=858
