I have a friend that just modded his XBOX a week or so ago.(Xbit chip) All the sudden his XBOX will not read any DVD backups at all, only originals. It will however read a EVO-X install CDRW.. Just not DVD's? These are the same DVD's that it was reading fine weeks before. I have tried everything I know to do with no luck. It boots fine into Evo-x but will not load backup DVD's. Anyone have any suggestions to what might be the problem? Thanks in advance

You were playing the backups without a chip installed?

No, It has a chip installed. It just stopped reading backup games. It will read a EVO-X CDRW install disk and also boot into EVO-X. But will not read any of the DVD backups that it played before. hope this clears things up a bit if I was confusing.

No, The xbox is less than a month old. We did happen to have a Samsung DVD SD-616T drive lying around (what luck) and swapped it out with the xbox DVD drive and it worked like a champ.. It read everyting we could throw at it.. So I guess the drive took a dump on him.. Anyways we got it working.. thanks anways

Hello ya'll. I'm the friend. I was SOOooo lucky that a new drive i bought from a friend at work that was still just lying around happen to be a samsung sd-616t, and actually (don't remember when I downloaded it.) of all drives i bought!!! I got very lucky with this one.
It works just fine. Thanx to tutorials at xbox-scene for which i would still have a messed up XBox (relating to playing backups.) Took a little work though i must say. Having to flash a new firmware (no biggie) and modding the interior of the xbox to make it work right, and soldering 4 connections inside the drive, and remounting the Motor backwards, and making a Y adapter power cable and superglueing the XBox tray cover on the old drive (so it's looking the same as before). I can personally say it is worth it now.
Sure it sucks that after about a month the original screws up where it only see's originals. I had the new drive sitting around anyways. And it now boots EVERYTHING just fine, including CD-R's, so it was worth it. Anyone else wanting to do this, i won't mind if you have any questions. I'm big with helping others, the more people we can help and get the scene growing (huge as it already is.), the easier help will be with other questions we might have as well.

Thanx again guys for the help. Have fun!!
