My xbox dvd drive is broken...
Could someone please set me straight on the following ways to repair:

    1) Clean drive and adjust potentiometer
    2) Replace with same brand xbox dvd drive
    3) In conjunction with modchip, replace with any brand xbox drive
    4) With modchip, replace with LG 8164B + adapter chip + firmware
    5) With modchip, sacrifice original game playback and replace with any
dvd drive (this IS an option. I can turn this one into an XBMC and use
a friends xbox to FTP games to laptop, then to my xbox HD (or just buy
    another.)

    Thanks in advance...

Successfully performed option 1. Drive is still a little grumpy
sometimes, but seems to operate at about 96%. The most cost-effective
way to bring drive to 100% seems to be buying a new laser for my
particular brand drive (about $15). LG drive and solderless adapter add
up to about $60 with shipping included and seems easy enough to mod.
Also it seems that any xbox dvd drive will work in any xbox regardless
    of whether xbox is modded.

According to www.xbox-linux.org it is possible to replace with any dvd
drive when running full-blown linux on the xbox.

Does anyone know if XBMC will still run on xbox linux? Does this mean
that a mod chip bypasses the xbox's built in hardware error handling?
