im using unleashX as my dashboard and it has a built in ftp server, what i want to know is if i connect to my xbox hdd using ftp protocol from my friends house. I have an ftp server already on my network so im sure there will probably be a conflict, as it is a M$ server, lol. or is it possible to use xbox media centre to connect using a different protocol maybe the smb protocol instead, im not sure if the xbox can join a workgroup or domain. i can connect locally no problem, i want to connect externally to the xbox. any suggestion Torrentmasta
You can connect to your Xbox’s FTP server remotely by configuring your router to direct all port 21 (FTP) requests to your Xbox’s internal IP address (192.168.XXX.XXX). This procedure is different for every router but if you've already managed to set up an MS server then you should already know how to do it. However if your current server is already using port 21, and is forwarded within your router, I'd advise changing the FTP port in your dashboard configuration. Try setting your XBOX to use port 22 for FTP, then just open port 22 in your router's firewall and forward requests to your Xbox’s IP. It should be as simple as that. To make things even easier, download NO-IP DUC, it allows you to assign a DNS name (myxbox.servehttp.com for example) to your IP address. So essentially, you could run this on your home PC, and connect to your Xbox remotely with these simple variables: Server: myxbox.servehttp.com Username: Xbox Password: Xbox (should be changed) Port: 22 The beauty of this is that you don’t have to remember an IP address. And if you don’t have a static address, it saves you from having to check it every time. Good luck
