I have just bought an xbox and doing a bit of research about backing up games? i have read alot about game patches, im thinking of buying a modchip and flashing with latest bios does this get round the need to patch? as the latest bios's have no pach hacks 1,2 I am probably not going to put my games on to the hd but to back them up on dvd and boot from them.
Also what would you recomend in terms of mod chip the executor 2.2 or x-bit (i got v1.3 xbox) solderless im more tempted for solderless but i did do a ps2 magic3 mod which was alot of fiddly solder points and the exectutor looks a breeze compared to that. What i want is functionality and ease of use.

Hey, Xbox-scene.com has some good comparisons on modchips if you wanted to look there. No, the newer versions of bioses don't require patches to be applied, personally I'd reccommend the Xecutor 4977 bios.

    wassup...

patching: i do believe that the newest bios's do get around the media key in the default.xbe of games (but some games themselves need patching ie enter the matrix)

for an xbox 1.3, you could get a matrix and just add wires to connect to teh points (minor soldering, but executioner is a good one always).

ease of use: easy once you understand how it all works... do a search in the forums for xbox backups (there's a HUGE thread that has lots of background info and steps and probs/answers)
    good luck!
