xbox hard drive

I just inherited an xbox v1.6. On power up I get the 09 message hard drive message, I have tried the put it my PC . My question to the group is what are my options, get a modchip kit and a new hard drive? If that is the answer which kit is top shelf and hard drive for the money.

 

you can get the X3 or the X2.6 about a 20.00 dollar difference both great chips though, and any PC HD will work a nice 160 GB HD would do just fine.....

 

I recommend the X3. You can get a Maxtor 300gb for around $100 at newegg.com

 

I know what the technical details of an error nine are, but I dont actually understand it, anyone care to shed some light.

 

Oh and btw you can get the duox 2 for 10$ at www.divineo.com, I have it and its a great little chip.

Not very common error, please try another harddisk.

i have ran into this problem one time in person, my friends xbox hdd died on him and i had to put a new one in......his xbox wasnt modded so it was the first time i used to chip....
