Okay. I got an Xbox, and bought the only game I would play on it; Unreal Championship 2. I now here that there is an update from xbox live that adds 10 new characters, along with other stuff. I don't even have the money for internet, let alone internet exclusively for one game. Since Xbox is hacked, can't I just simply download the extra content on my compy, and ftp it to the hard drive? I'm assuming thats just what Live does. I just want the extra characters. I have the original disc, so I guess I'd have to make like an iso or something to put it to the harddrive, right? Of course, I'm just fine playing it from the disc and just putting the extra stuff onto the harddrive, but I just assume loading times would be faster from the HD. Plus, I had to repair the cd-rom anywho, so it only plays half of the time. I can deal with it, because it works fine if you stack isanely heavy things RIGHT onto the top of the cdrom. Sound skips, but again offtopic. In short, can I just download the extra content from the net and put it on my xbox? Cyrus
How these live updates work... The data comes direct from the M$ servers (or game servers) to your xbox in a game specific format.. It changes a save file, possibly adds one.. ands puts a folder of data in the Tdata folder as well, maybe more than one. I know this from looking at the extra levels supplied for splinter cell.. to get the data from the servers you will need an xbox (not running any mods or you will get banned) connected to the game live (fit a stock clear hdd, with no game saves or anything like that.. so you can see what has been added and transfer it) see.. it's not as simple as you think, because the live servers verify your xbox is an xbox.. by it's eeprom/hdd pair.. and here comes another cruncher.. even if you get somebody else to download you the data and make a save (which I'm 99% sure it will need) you can't just swap saves between boxes sometimes. Some yes, but I would be pretty sure that a live game update save will be checksummed against the specific xbox hardware also.. You are too late in the game with this.. unless you can find this update ripped and working somewhere the only option is to get something like 1 month minimal live subscription.. disable all your mods and go live and get it. It's possible somebody has put this data up on the net somewhere, but I haven't seen it
Meh. Okay, I haven't modded it YET. What do I need to do to get this? Do I really want/need to pay for a month sub when I only intend to download 1 update,,, and don't intend to play with the 13 yr old Pl@yeRz who have l33t skillz?
