Ok. I have a 250GB Seagate Hard Drive that I was going to lock for my xbox. I did everything right with the xboxhdm cd. (I've locked drives successfully before) And everything seemed fine at first, but when I put it into my Xbox nothing worked. So I was going to unlock back, but now everytime I try, I get a message saying primary master error. So for some reason the drive is not being detected at all. Any help?

So you locked your drive successfully and put it in your xbox and have the cable select setting selected?

I would try to go in the bios and see if it says anything is connected. Sometimes you have to change it to user settings to lock the hard drive but it doesn't sound like that's your problem. Maybe a bent ide pin or a hard drive failure...

is your drive clicking a lot of sqeeling? Also what exactly does your bios say when it's connected, it should give the model number for the hard drive.

I would try to set it from auto to user and see how things go.

    Good luck

No. Its not. Which means its still alive. And yes. It does show the model number. I also have a IDE to USB enclosure and the drive letter shows on my xbox in unleashx. But its says its not formatted. I'll try user and let you know how it goes.

Ok. For anyone who ever has this problem. I figured it out. If you are getting a primary master error on your computer.
    1. Go here and download the Magic Boot Disk with MHDD.

    2. Make sure your Xbox drive is in the Primary Master still. Boot onto disk

    3. Run MHDD by typing "MHDD" (No Quotes)

    4. It will give you a list of drives. Select the first one or the one that shows the model number of your drive.

    5. Type in "unlock" and give the EEPROM key or the master password if you know it.

    6. Then type in "dispwd" and give the same thing.

    7. Your drive should be successfully unlocked. Now you can format it with that CD or whatever else you like.
