Unless you have a backup of your eeprom or hd key on your computer you will not be able to use your hard drive. The hd key is stored on the motherboard, so there is no way of unlocking your drive and installing it in another xbox without this. If you do have a backup of your eeprom you can use xbox hd maker to unlock the drive on your pc. If you get it unlocked you will have to flash the new motherboard with your old eeprom so that it can be locked and unlocked.

No It still won't let you use your old drive cause it is locked and without the key you cannot unlock it. Just last week my drive got corrupted and I could not get into it either so I know how you feel. Lost all saves, games,..... I had to get a new drive, but I don't play xbox live so I left this one unlocked so it wouldn't get locked where I couldn't get back into it, and have another paper weight like I do now.

You might be able to get a set on ebay for cheap, but you don't know exactly what you're getting if you get it used. So I would be careful going that way and look at the seller's feed back scores.

You can build or buy an eeprom reader and read your code off the dead MB. Then you can write that eeprom back to the new motherboard and continue using your original HD like nothing ever happened!
