Im in the market for a new system, but I can't decide what system to get. I am 24 years old. I like Xbox for the hardware, but PS2 for the games. I guess my delima is uncertainty of the future for the Xbox. What are your thoughts about what the future holds for the Xbox system. Im afraid After I get the Xbox, it will go down sort of like all the sega systems did. Thanks for all your advice.

In my personal opinion I think the X-Box is here to stay.
1.They have the best online games going
    2.Obviously the speed
3.It's practically a computer they you pay $180 for.
The list goes on and on, of course I have a ps2 as well and there is no doubt that the list of games is great but for me I enjoy the fact that I can put a 120gb hard drive in my xbox and put around 30 games or movies on it and take just the console and controllers on vacation.

The first system I tried to mod was a PS2. I used the no-solder chip and Magic Swap boot disk. I could not get the chip to work and it
always would lock up. The ribbon cables are so short, they would always come undone when trying to re-assemble the unit. Also you need tweezers if you have large fingers because there is not much room to play with.

I then gave up with PS2 and purchased an Xbox. I then bought a Matrix chip (no solder) and it was a very plesurable experience. I found all the neccessary items : bios, evox,Media player and slayer auto install. The chip was simple to install once you figure out where it fits in. It was just as simple to replace the original drive with a new 7200Rpm 120G Maxtor.

If I figure out how to burn my own PS2 games ( which is not all that difficult) I'll buy a unit already modded and then just make my own games.

I head that Micro$oft is VERY pleased with the results of Xbox live, so I don't have any worries about it going away. Game publishers will still crank out games.
Luca$film has a new Star Wars game for 2004:Republic Commando

Get an Xbox now mainly for the drive capacity. He's right about having a portable DVD/DivX player. Put in emulators for the Snes,Playstation One and Mame (Arcade Roms).

Don't buy a PS2 until you find out some info about the Playstation 3 which comes out sometime in 2005. It will play PS2 games and by then all the games will be much cheaper then current shelf prices.

If there is a FYE store in your mall (For Your Entertainment) they have signs for both PS2 and Xbox for $149.00 after a $30 rebate. Electric Boutique (another game store in the mall) sells refurbished Xboxes for $150.

Thanks for the Replies guys, I think i am going to pick up an Xbox tommorow from FYE if I can find one.
Are there any versions I should watch out for for modding purposes?

I have both systems, and both are modded. The PS2 does have better games, but is harder to mod. While modding the Xbox you have to do other stuff, like loading a new dashboard and flash the BIOS, with the PS2 you just put the chip in and play! The PS2 plays all the emulator stuff just like the Xbox, and the PS2 will have a hardrive out soon that you can add on. In my opinion, the PS2 loads games faster, but the Xbox has better graphics. Also, you have to get the system that has the games that YOU want to play. And if you don't have broadband internet, you won't be playing Xbox live at all. If you really want a PS2, i wouldn't wait for the Playstation 3, because it is 2 years away, and you can always do a trade-in deal at Electronics Boutique. So just find what games you really want to play, and get the system that has them.

i also have a modded xbox and modded PS2, and i couldn't live without either one! yeah the PS2 has more games, but it's been out alot longer. if you do a time ratio on amount of games vs time in the market, the xbox is climbing right up there. bottom line is, they are both great consoles, it's all about personal wants and needs.

I have to agree with darthnip I really could not live without either one, If all the games that were on the ps2 were on the xbox then no doubt I would sell the ps2 but Sony has alot of exclusive titles. Then again I cannot even get rid of my gamecube I even like to play that a few times a week.
