i am looking to do a hotswap with my xbox and i was wondering if the xbox will boot without the video cable connected...
It will boot yes, but you will get a flashing red/orange LED. But to the best of my knowledge it will still boot, yes. -Mike
You just need it plugged in the back of the xbox. If you don't have it plugged in the xbox you'll get the flashing red LED in front and the xbox won't boot properly. This is something you can test yourself, no need to post about it (not to be mean or anything). If you start it up with out it plugged in back then plug it in after it's turned on you'll see it will just freeze before the Microsoft logo pops up. Anyways, in answer to your question, you can hotswap without a TV, just make sure the video cable is plugged in your xbox.
