Good afternoon. I was having a nightmare of a time trying to get a friends XBOX off of error code 16. I installed an old executer 2 pro of mine. Everything was working. Fine. For some reason The hard drive accidentally touched the fan and there XBOX just turned off. There was obviously a short. There was no flash, no burning smell, no smoke, and no signs of major trauma. Also, the HD powers up in other XBOXs but I cant get the xbox to turn on. Please advise me as to what to look for or what I can do. I had everything working fine. Thank you.
OK first of all its sounds like you touched more than the fan if the xbox don't switch on and theres a short.(SHORT= metal to metal / FANS are plastic) heres what i'd do, borrow someones xbox open it up check power connector from mains supply board on the right to motherboard on the left its the big block with all the wires connected to it plugged into the mother board make sure its same as the one in the not workin xbox if it is same swap em over, connect it up dont bother pluggin dvd drive an hdd in not-work xbox see if it powers up first, if so then you know the prob if not you did check the plug fuse didn't you?? if still not working you have blown a fuse on the motherboard if so tell yer friend merry xmas yer buying him a new xbox!!!!
sounds like a fuse.if you have blown a fuse it shouldnt be hard to fix.take the fuse out and go to an electronics store buy a replacement fuse put it in and abracabara you fixed the problem.if that doesnt work take it to an xbox repairman and see what he can do.
ok if you want to replace the fuse from the xbox motherboard be very careful as the fuses are the same sizes as diodes not your average everyday plug fuse and when desoldering a fuse out you could damage other components plus you have to find the blown fuse first!! best take it to an electrician shop just to be on the safe side but then again if the fuse is the problem on the motherboard chances are itll cost quite a bit for a replacment and cost of labour maybe cheaper to buy a new xbox (EBAY) or local admag? good luck anyhows.
ive seen an xbox with a broken dvd rom for $100.you can also get working and broken xbox pretty cheap at auctions.or try a second hand shop always useful for spare parts.
