Ok, I have just gotten a used Xbox on eBay around a month ago, and I am not that scared of messing it up. What I want to do is put Linux or cool stuff like that on it (and maybe even allow it to play backup up games). My very long question is this: Why can't I just rip the hard drive out of my Xbox and put it into my computer and upload the new files required for evolution x or whatever its called? I was reading threads on how the hard drive is "locked", but can't I just boot from a DOS floppy or something and upload the exploits or whatever? I don't have the required exploit games, I don't have Action Replay/Gameshark/whatever is required, I don't have any freaking modchips, I have no money, and I am waaaaay too lazy to take apart the Xbox motherboard. Don't just give me links or tell me to get a modchip. Any comments would help. BTW I am running XP, if that affects anything. Thanks for helping someone new to this.

By a chip (hardmod) Or softmod using the origanal xbox games 007 AUF, Splinter cell or Mech assault

NOTE: They have to be origanal copies just search the forums for soft modding tutorials there are like 100000000 tutorials. And if your lazy you are going to have to be non lazy otherwise don't even start the JOB!
