Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me complete my xbox setup. I have a modded xbox and have successfully connected it to my network, by that I mean I can ftp to my xbox and transfer files from pc. What I was wanting to do now is to share a folder on my pc so my xbox can read music and video files from it. I have shared the e:drive on my pc and the folder in which my media files are in. But I think the smb setting on my xbox are wrong and xbox gives an error when i enter workgroup(smb) network. I have set the smb share ip to a valid ip on my network and have tried setting the wins server ip to the routers ip. but with no luck any help would be much appreciated

    * On your PC make sure you have enabled file sharing all the way around. For me this meant sharing the C: drive, then selecting the exact folder within the C: drive and sharing this one also. In my case I wanted to share my "MEDIA FOLDER". My Media folder contains all of my PC based Music, photos, videos. I selected to share this specific folder and have other PC's on my network (in my house only) see, access the information in my "MEDIA FOLDER"

    * Lastly go to your Xbox media cener (XBMC)and go to the picture, video or music selector on you XBMC. Once here you shold see a variety of drives. One being E, G, F, and the variety of others.

    * If you set your PC up correctly once you are in XBMC Video,Pictures or music, you should see a ICON or TITLE name that is called " XBMSP Network Servers (Auto-Discover)

    * Select this drive (Press A on controller)and this should take you to a second screen. This the "Server Screen" In this screen you should see your PC's IP address "192.***.***.*.***( and your PC's shared network name. Select this( Press A) and this should enter you the the next screen, all of the shared files and folders.

    * If you like you could rename this Drive/Icon for easier identification each time you visit.

*Lastly you have to go to each menu Video within XBMC, Pics, Video, Music, to see this drive and open it to check that you can access your newly shared drive from each menu.

This has worked great for me. Now I dont have to buy a larger HD for XBOX, as I can run all of my media VIA my XBOX. Please note you CAN NOT, as far as I know run games from you PC on your XBOX.

i had major issues with Vista and XBMC. I ended up FTP'ing into it, downloading the XML file that tells it where the sources are (sorry, cant remember the file name), and manually putting the locations in i.e.

    smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/<location>

or something along those lines. Sorry for the lack of detail, it has been a while since i have had to do it
