xbox update failed

I am new to xbox, i have connected the xbox too my wireless mac osx with connect 360,all seems too be well, i have configured it all right or should i say connect 360.My problem is trying to go live on the xbox as it asks me to install the update ,then it fails from the start, i have looked at many solutions but with no success. i have put the software on cd and dvd , i have taken hard drive out for 5 mins and tryed again, with the dvd and cd nothing happens.I am 3 days trying to get this right but its so frustrating.
Anyone out there that had the same prom that can help.
