hi im working on fixing my friends xbox because his EEPROM.bin was deleted. Im following a tutorial by UNICRON. I have made an EEPROM reader and read his EEPROM with ponyprog. Then i followed the instructions in xboxhdm v 1.9. I used my xbox's HDD to get the C and E drives (with TDATA and UDATA and all the other stuff i needed). Then i took his EEPROM.bin file that i got from his EEPROM chip and put it where my EEPROM.bin files would be(all 3 places). from there i selected make-iso-win in xboxhdm and i made my file. Then i burned the file with Nero on a CD-RW. Then i put my xbox's HDD in primary master in the computer(after changing the jumpers on the xbox's HDD). After that i booted the computer and switched around the order of devices so that the CD/DVD drive was first. Then i booted the CD with xboxhdm on it. I went to option 3 (something about linux) and then it gave me the option to unlock my HDD so i pressed unlock. Then it gave me a menu that said press -a to automatically unlock HDD with EEPROM and that gave me a kernel was not found error . It also had options -p, -f but i still got the same error. I have done multiple EEPROM reads but i still get the same thing. I have also looked back in UNICRON's tutorial to make sure i didnt do anything wrong. I think that there may be a problem with the xboxhdm but im not sure. Post some replys if you guys can help. Thanks

ok you need the eeprom for what now? to get the hard drive to boot? and unless you are going to format the drive and put a larger drive in it i believe you should be trying to lock the drive...

no and no. i got his EEPROM from his EEPROM chip and i read it with ponyprog. i am using xboxhdm 1.9 with his harddrive and trying to get it to unlock but when i try to unlock it with xboxhdm it wont let me. maybe i burned the cd wrong?? but i dont know. well for the cd i put my C and E drive from my hardrive and replaced my EEPROM with his EEPROM (on the computer) and then i burned the cd with Nero.

ps im just trying to get his hardive to work again so he can play xbox

that's what you originally posted so hence where the confusion came from.

IF you used his/her EEPROM when compiling the XBOXHDM disc then with his/her HDD connected to your PC when you boot and select 'Lock/Unlock Options' then after that loads up type in unlockhd -a (going from memory here, it's all spelled out on screen what you need to type in) then the program will use the EEPROM that was used in the EEPROM folder during the creation of the linux.iso file and it will unlock the HDD. if you didn't use the right EEPROM there then you can create a floppy disc with locking/unlocking capability and then load the correct EEPROM via the floppy drive too.

i made the linux .iso file with the eeprom.bin file in the right spaces and then i burned it. but when i boot up xboxhdm and select option 3 to unlock/lock the HDD with the linux cd i get a menu that says type unlock to unlock and lock to lock. so i press unlock and it gives me another menu. press -a to automatically find the eeprom.bin file and unlock the HDD. press -p to type in the HDD passcode. and press -f to find the eeprom.bin file to unlock the HDD. none of these options work and ive even tried different versions of xboxhdm and it still wont unlock my HDD. i make a floppy disk with xboxhdm and then booted it while trying to unlock the HDD and that didnt work either. is there any other way to get his HDD unlocked or maybe to get this to work?

no error 11/12 hotswap from xbox to computer because i dont want to fry my computer.

the easiest way is get an Xecuter X3ce with the Xapt3r No-Solder Pogo Pin Install Option and then you can work on anyones box with minimal headache.

you can try again with the XBOXHDM and a new harddrive but the frustration could be easily resolved with the chip.

the Xapt3r makes it a very quick install/removal. takes less then 5 min to put the adapter and chip in fix the harddrive (or make a new one) FTP an original (or softmodded) setup back to the C/E drives and pull the adapter/chip back out and you're back in business.

if i was to try a new HDD ( one thats from 1999 i think) would i be able to format it with xboxhdm. and i read somewhere that if u put a new HDD in ur xbox and you take away any traces that it was modded u will still get banned when u get on xbox live. is that true?

yes XBOXHDM will format and partition it as well as restore the files back to it. can't help you on the live part there, i don't play on live but i have unmodded a few for people and put them back to their original files and they had no problems playing on live but it was their original harddrive and files. unless MS checks the HDD serial # against a database i don't see how anyone would know the box has been changed any.
