Xecutor 2.2 lite - Programmer error codes?

I have a problem with my Xbox. I have a V1.0 NTSC and have recently placd the X2.2 lite modchip (soldered). I have run through the forum looking at the many flashing problems, and picked up a programmer.
I have flashed the bios using the CD (X2_4977), using XBM and it gave the tri-boot and flash scenario.
I then tried to re-flash the bios using the programmer and X2cable software.

This loops out, returning an error code of :

    ERROR: SYNCf=4.

This doesn't sound good, as it fails to work on any bios, on any bank.

    Any ideas - gratefully received.

Hi i can't say i know exactly the error but make sure you have your parallel port set to EPP mode by entering your bios and changing it there. x2cable is the program i used to flash my 2.2 lite so i know it works and i also did the 4977 (the 1 meg version) and all i can think is that you dont have the read/write switch set to enable? And rename your bios to bios.bin while i think of it.

    Thanks _carlos_,

I had already done that (should have mentioned it). The box still boots into the MSDash, so it limits damage to the mod, i am thinkning of following the software exploit (OO7) or another mod chip, i think i might have broken this one.

I think its because your cable is too long. The way I got it too work is plugging the programmer directly into the parallel port in the back of the pc, you have to remove the studs from the programmer.

Thats an idea, I am currently using a 60cm cable.
I have also noticed that the lights on the programmer & the Mod chip turn off when the sync error occurs. Most curious, but i will try a direct plug into the back of my laptop - thanks

Okay, The direct plug thing worked a treat (thank you).*
i have found out that the error (SYNC=4)is low power message (i was using the battery), the error then changes to SYNC=8, this turned out to be a poo corrupt bios. I managed to finally flash a X2_4977 bios (1meg), and low and behold i am back where i started, with a Cromwell 2.25 Linux Clean Bios - amazing.

I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of working X2_4977 bios'. I have tried about 5 now (and a very late night), only to end up with a tri boot and fail for every alledged 4977 bios,
I must be doing something wrong, any ideas? or can someone kindly help me out with a tried and tested bios before i go mad.

    Thanks

I suspect your bios is fine just being used incorrectly along the way. When you created your bios file, did you name it bios.bin (all in lower case as shown)? Did you use the make1mb.bat file or the x2 bios manager? This tutorial covers using the programmer http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=63396&st=0
ignore the ground wire its for older version boards. If you tell me more of what your process is I might be able to help. A hard drive crash has long ago taken care of what files I had so I no longer have any. I'm just going off memory.

Thanks for the Tut pointer, it is exactly what i needed to confirm what i have been doing (unfortunatly).

I am connecting using your method of direct connection, and powering using the usb.

I have created the bios using both X2BM & make1mb.bat.
I have also tried every acceptable permutation of naming (bios.bin, biosupd1.bin,cromwell.bin etc), all will happily flash the chip from the programmer (i dont think the naming convention really matter when using the programmer).

As for the cd. I am using CDRW Phillip cdrw-74, and am burning using Nero, i am using a DVD+RW at 2x, justlink enabled, dao/96, disk at once.

I have placed bios.bin in the root directory with over 100Mb dump file. Still to no avail.

I am considering burning to a DVD+r, and trying that (incase of media quality issues).

The box is an american V1.0 with a samsung DVD and 8gig HDD.

I have tested the drive through the "Burn music to the CDRW and play through the Xbox media player" method, and it all works.

The words "End of my Tether" are springing to mind.

But thanks for your help *Everybody*

Heres one more piece of the puzzle that you might not be doing. You have to have the switch board plugged into the chip and switched to enable to flash, you may be already doing this but its just a thought.

    Hello again,

Alas, i do have the Swith in place (Enabled/Unprotected/Bank1)

I saw that someone is recommending only flashing a 512K bios to bank2.

I will give it a go, its not as if i have anything to lose.

Will keep you all posted... with baited breath

Can i get an update on this...it's getting confusing!

What are you doing with the cd if you have it flashed already with a programmer? You say it flashed successfuly (according to the flasher software) but booting with it doesnt work? I find it hard to believe that 5 bios' dont work so can only presume that you have the D0 point soldered incorrectly. I did this after reading a tutorial for a version 1 xbox but the version 1.2 i have is different...either that or i just lost view of what i was doing...anyhow, upon rechecking my point of solder, i realised that it was wrong and i tried to top of the board point, finding it easier than the person said, it worked straight away then.

Just an idea seeing as this road seems to be exhausted and i dont think you've done anything wrong as far as flashing goes now.

    Let us know!

    Carlos

I cannot get the X2_4977 bios to work with or without the programmer, it just tries to boot 3 times and hangs (red + Green Flashes)

I have tested to d0 point with the multi meter and all read ok, and i am 100% sure that the solder point is correct.

I can flash the bios with the Cromwell 2.25 and OZxchips bios, but none allow mw to do anything except load linux, or flash the bios (which obviously isn't working).
Everything verifies ok, and still i bang me head agaist the Xbox wall.

    The problem has been solved.

I hunted around for another bios,
I flashed only 512k bios to bank 1 (OZXChips) then flashed bank2 with the new bios, again 512k, works a charm.
I used 512's as i was getting really pissed off with the whole removal issue, so this way i could reflash in situe.

I can only put it down to incredible bad luck on my choice of downloads.

The one to look for is the Multi-Ver-4977.

Thank you to *Everyone* (_Carlos_, djc11369).

It is now ready to receive a new dash and go in the car (sad, but i want it for a MMedia station). Will do everything, PVR, Satnav, DVD, DivX.XviD, emu's,Music, a true toy for the family. - Thanks
