this has nothing to do with the backups, just the chip itself.

I checked their site and there are a couple of toggles we can select for our purposes.

I haven't really messed with anything since it works, why fuss.

anyhow, the start button thing. I should see some info on the xeno chip and all but I get it in pal.

is it originally in pal? how can I fix this? I have a usa model of ngc by the way.

    thanks.

So you're pressing Start to see the Xeno screen but it's in Pal rather than NTSC?

I'm not sure, but I can tell you you're not missing much. Just a quite crappy screen saying Version 1.0 or something. I'll post a pic...

that's exactly what I mean, its PAL and I got a NTSC tv.

ya I'm probably not missing much but wanted to checkout some info off my cube, like the drive and all. ya, even though I cannot see much, the screen does look cruddy.

by the way Stirfry, do you know if DREfix (retries) being enabled will deteriorate the laser in anyway? Because I know the default is having it on every boot, but I tried it off and the game still runs perfectly, guess its a good burn. Because if it does kill it faster, I might as well have it off everytime.

Does [X/Y] Force NTSC/PAL display mode & [START] Version display buttons together switch it to NTSC?

Here are the screens when you press Start. It's like a slideshow of 3 screens, pressing any of the controllers buttons doen't do anything.

If the DRE Fix is on, but the cube isn't coming accross any DRE coz the burn is perfect, then I guess having it won't do anything (having DRE Fix on).

Oh, and thought I'd mention that even on bad burns/dvds the DRE Fix doesn't seem to re-try very many times so I don't think it would do much if any damage. I got random errors on my crap mini DVDs.

    thanks for the screens Stirfry.

I tried combining the keys of the ntsc force and the start but still no luck. my best bet is that the screen was programmed for pal users, probably where xeno chips originated from, but still supports ntsc booting of games (which is cool).

I recall the first backup I burnt, it was on a TDK fullsize, had the case off to test. it took a while to boot as it was frozen at the gc logo for some time, but eventually booted. but right after the mem card msg on the game, the red led came on and I got a dre msg on the screen. but at that instant, the disc spun down and immediately spun up again, but the game was still frozen at the dre screen. I'm guessing thats the retry.

Stirfry, with your experience of dre with the cheap minis, did the retry do any good? or was it just like freezing?

it was either a failed burn or your pot is off a little.

set the pot at 177,it boots everything for me.but of course all cubes are different
