Alright, I recently converted a DVD to avi using Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum 4. When I tried to play the avi on VLC media player, it said that it was broken. VLC fixed the file, but now the picture lags alot. How can I make future avi's better quality, and why was this avi broken?

Choose other output format, such as DivX AVI or Xvid AVI.

Ok I'm still getting broken files.. can someone please help

When selecting files to rip, I only select the file with the actual movie on it (the only large file). Could that be the problem?
