Have an older laptop that someone put XP home on it.Will it operate better if I put Win2000 on it?Or maybe Win ME?I put a copy of 2000 in and it told me that the install portion of the cd would be disabled.Any help much appreciated. thanks
first off, screw ME it's just a fancy name for Windows 98 Third Edition. so if ur going back, goto 2k Pro or 2k. okay, put it in before it actually loads XP. so that when boot select from CD is available. and then reformat and install. that should work.....you will lose all stuff on your hard-drive, so backup anything you want to keep. since 2k or xp require clean installs if i remember right? you might consider upgrading to a newer laptop?? what's it primarily used for?
thanks going to try that.Dont use it much.downloading pics from deer trail cameras and surfing web.My wife likes empire poker on web. thats about it.Home setup is a compaq presario 1710nx 2ghz processor with 2gb ram cd-rw and dvd-rw.Laptop is just for portability. thanks again
Just tried loadiing before xp started and it doesnt work.I left disc in and turned off then back on hoping it would boot from cd and it didnt.Any other ideas? thanks
uhm, besides pressing F8 before XP loads to get into setup to wipe the drive that way? not really.....u could try that, then inserting your 2k disk in?
I had a similar problem tying to go from XP Media Center back to regular XP. Couldn't use the others boot disc to format the drive and install new OS. Ended up using Disk manager within windows to completely format the hard drive, then set my BIOS to boot from CD and everyones happy now.
Deadrum I am in diskmanager this is wat I see: (C partition basic fat32 healthy(system) 6.04 gb 3.42gb 56% free no fault tolerence 0% overhead Below that it reads: Disk 0 Basic 6.05 GB Online CD-ROM 0 DVD(D No Media I do have a dvd drive in that bay. How do I do the reformat and make it read that drive on boot? I would like to use win2000. Thanks
