I've searched the forums and come across a few people who've experienced this problem for various reasons, though none of the solutions offered have worked for me. My SONY DVD RW DRU 700A reads blank DVDs as CDS under My computer. This is also the case when I use NERO, it wont burn as it says the disc is a CD. But DVD decrypter recognises the disc as a blank DVD and burns fine, as does CD Burner XP pro.If I put a DVD movie into the SONY drive it plays fine. I've tried uninstalling/installing drivers and the IDE Channel drivers to no avail. This all began when I installed and uninstalled various DVD burning software to see which would work best for me. Since then this problem keeps popping up. I'll turn on my PC every other day and it says my DVD blanks are CD blanks. The other drive on my system SAMSUNG DVD/CD-RW works fine. To sum up: both XP My Computer and NERO are saying my DVD blanks are CDs! Help appreciated!
Did you try removing your Sony drive, reboot, reinstall reboot. Sometimes that works. You may have to remove and reinstall Nero afterwards. Try both! I don't know if this will help or not. Sometimes it works.
Thanks for the tip, but tried that already and didn't work. Both XP & Nero still insisting its a blank CD! CD Burner Xp pro works fine, as does DVD dycrypter reading & burning, both recognise that there is a blank DVD in the drive despite XP saying its a blank CD.
What programs did you install? Did you go through and see if any of their drivers are remaining on your system such as in the Upper and Lower filters? If you've uninstalled these other programs, use the Nero Registry Checker and Driver utility to remove any left over remanents. This may help your issue. Regards, Craig Nero Inc USA
I think my burner does the same thing, but it's not that big a deal because I can still burn DVDs. I'd say don't worry about it.
