I have a few movies & PS2 disk backups that windows xp pro[/bold] wont recognize. They play fine on my DVD player & PS2 but the moment I put them in my [bold]LIte-ON DVDRW - & + SOHW 16735 (Pioneer also)[/bold] dvd burners the system doesnt even see them. I have [bold]DVD decrypter, DVD Shrink, & Alcahol 120%[/bold] & none of these Programs will see the disk. [bold]Windows explorer[/bold] fails to see it either. I am at a loss as to why? Any help would be appreciated.
I have a Liteon drive (2 actually) and never had any trouble. Are you using crappy media? Too many scratches? Pizza stains? What kind of player are you using? I never use windows xp to view movies only power DVD. Do the movies still have encryption?
They are New media I got from a friend. They are disks he bought in the Philippines. like i said i dont think its the drive but the way the disks were coppied. windows fails to recognize there is a disk in the drive (however they work fine in the DVD player & PS2.
Im not sure how to update firmware? For what? the pc or the drive? it has the same problem on several pc's also? HELP
(I'm assuming, that you've installed your dvd drives correctly, and that windows recognizes the drive(s) and other [older] media that you have lying around. Is this correct?) "They are New media I got from a friend." "windows fails to recognize there is a disk in the drive." The firmware of your dvd-drives contain information re: how to deal with new media. Therefore, if your drive is say, A YEAR OLD... and a manufacturer comes out with new media TODAY... it's unlikely that your drive will recognize this new media.... Afterall, the drive manufacturers (a year ago) wouldn't be able to anticipate what kind of media might be developed today! So, it's worth trying to update the firmware in your dvd-drive. My pc is 2 months old a p4m 3.2 all other dvd's work in the drive execpt the 2 or 3 others i mentioned. they cant be read by any PC i have tried them in (4 others to be exact) & yet they work fine in stand alone Players. My personal teory is maybe they were burnt on a mac? Its weird i will try the firmware though. Thanks
I download & tryed the little program to check firmware & it faied to recognize my lite-on dvd burn it just pick up the ram drive from alcohol 120% AXV CD/DVD ROM firmware Version 2.2a? Whats goin on?
A quick update: I reflashed the Lite-on (JS05)with the newest firmware & I still am having the same problem. Its a mystery. Anyone who can identify my problem with the unreadable disk please help!
Hi there, I know most people only have 1 computer ( There's 5 in the house <smile> ) I had issued with 1 DVD Burner, and to eliminate software and my main pc, I installed it in an other computer, that had a fresh copy of XP on there. Had all the same problems, so I kinda prooved it was the DVD burner. I also had my old LG-4040B sitting in a box. Poped it in, and all my problems went away, so again I prooved it was the DVD Burner. If I had issues with the LG-4040B then I could have gone back and say, it might be software or this PC because an other burner is giving me the same kind of problems !

You might be SOL. -- since you've eliminated the majority of possibilities trying this media on other drives and other computers... My Gawd! You have 5 pc's! I hope most of them are folding, if you have them on all the time. Hehehe! To comfirm your suspicion that they might have been burned on a mac, why not find a friend with a mac and see if he can read the discs. If he can, have him burn them onto media that you know works with your drives. The last alternative would be to use a video capture card, and capture the video from your stand-alone player that can apparently read the disk. Sorry mate, that's the best advice I can give. I don't know if anyone else has any other ideas. This is a very weird problem you've run into. Good luck!
@kleppto - let's try something - download Nero info-tool from here - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/neroinfo.html Run it, note down the following, and paste here. Here's what mine shows - click on the drive tab, note down the firmware version [bold](REMEMBER to to this for both DVD Burners by clicking on the dropdown box at top left of info-tool)[/bold] click on configuration tab, note down the DMA fields, ie on or off it may be worth clicking on the aspi tab, and note down anything that might be missing As to ASPI, i'm still not 100% whether it's needed in XP, no matter how many times i read up on it, i'm still none the wiser. I've always installed it and it doesn't make things worse, plus i never read about installing it making problems so that's good enough for me. Download dvdinfopro (free) and run a media info check and paste the results. ps you could post your own pictures - i do this the same way, but i copy/pasted this from one of the moderators' posts - Step 1: push ctrl + PrintScreen (above the insert button) Step 2: Open paint .. click start -> programs -> accessories -> paint Step 3: push ctrl + v Step 4: crop your image. I crop what I want to show -> cut it -> open new -> paste it. [bold]Crop only what you want to keep[/bold] Step 5: save as jpeg Step 6: Host the jpeg here: http://imageshack.us/ While it's on my mind do this - - this makes sure DVD Shrink limits all movies to 4300MB, therefore not writing to the very edge of a disc. I've always done this and still do it on top quality media as you're hardly sacrificing any space.

ok, i'm stumped. i thought the screenshot questions would be a long shot anyway. I don't see how you're gonna progress this if no drives/PCs will read the things, even in windows explorer. We can't even tell if they're good or crap media. I really don't see what else to do other than send 'em back to your friend and/or get more info from your friend..
